Liz Callaway (born April 13, 1961) is an American singer, actress, and recording artist best known for her role in several female characters in animated films, including Anya/Anastasia in Anastasia, Odette in The Swan King II: Simba's Pride, adult Kiara in The Swan King's Pride, adult Kiara in The Return of Jafar and Aladdin's Beauty and the Beast's sequel The Return of Jafar and Aladdin's The Return of Sis

She was also the first Ellen in Miss Saigon's Broadway revival.

Early life, family, and education

Callaway was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Shirley Callaway, a guitarist, pianist, and vocal coach, as well as John Callaway, a journalist. Ann Hampton Callaway, an actress, composer, and singer with whom she performed the theme song for the Fran Drescher comedy series The Nanny, which Hampton Callaway also composed, is her sister. Both sisters attended New Trier High School (New Trier East) in Winnetka, Illinois. Callaway has also appeared in a number of cabaret and stage productions with her sister. Two of them were recorded, and Sibling Revelry performed live at Rainbow and Stars in 1995 and Boom! In 2011, Birdland was filmed live. Has not been released.

Personal life

Liz married theatre director and producer Dan Foster in 1985, a founding producer of the Hudson Stage Company, a non-profit, professional theatre company headquartered at Pace University in Westchester County, New York. Nicholas, the son of Kenyon College, attended Kenyon College.

Career

Liz Callaway appeared in Stephen Sondheim's short-lived Merrily We Roll Along (1981). Callaway has had a long-term professional association with Sondheim, appeared on Inside the Actors Studio, and has appeared in several live concerts, including Young Sally in the Lincoln Center concert performance of Follies with Mandy Patinkin, Barbara Cook, George Hearn, Lee Remick, Carol Burnett, and the New York Philharmonic. Follies was filmed live and also as a film.

Lizzie in Baby (for which she received a Tony Award nomination), The Three Musketeers, The Spitfire Grill (for which she received a Drama Desk Award nomination), and Miss Saigon were among her Sunday performances. Liz appeared in The Look of Love, a 2003 musical revue of Burt Bacharach and Hal David's songs, as well as other artists. Callaway appeared on WNEV-TV in Boston, Ready to Go, which ran from 1987 to 1991, winning her an Emmy Award. Miss Saigon's performances began on Broadway, and she left this series to begin rehearsals.

She appeared as Norma Desmond in the Pittsburgh CLO's latest production of Sunset Boulevard in July 2012.

Callaway has also provided the singing voices for a number of animated characters, including Anya/Anastasia in Anastasia, Kiara in The Lion King II: The Return of Jafar and Aladdin, King of Thieves, and Princess Odette in The Swan Princess.

She has appeared at Joe's Pub, Rainbow and Stars, the Russian Tea Room, 54 Below, and Lincoln Center in New York City, as well as other venues.
