Liu Yifei (born An Feng, 1987), also known as Crystal Liu (Chinese: Li Yfei), is a Chinese-American actress, singer, and model.

In the entertainment industry, she is best known as "Fairy Sister."

In 2009, she was named one of the New Four Dan Actresses of China.

Early life

Liu was born in Tongji Hospital in Wuhan, Hubei, as An Feng (). She is the only child in the family. An Shaokang (), a 1st Secretary in Beijing and a French language university professor, is a Chinese language university professor, and her mother is Liu Xiaoli (), a dancer and stage performer from Hubei, is her father. When she was ten years old, her parents divorced and she was solely raised by her mother. She adopted her mother's surname and changed her name to "Liu Ximeizi" that year (), her godfather, Chen Jinfei (), the Chairman of Beijing Tongchan Investment Group.

Liu and her mother immigrated to the United States in 1997, when she was ten years old. She grew up in Queens, New York City, where she attended Louis Pasteur Middle School 67. In 2002, she returned to China to pursue an acting career and assumed the stage name "Liu Yifei" (). Liu was accepted into the Beijing Film Academy at the age of 15 and graduated in 2006.

Career

Liu accepted offers to appear in numerous television series straight after admitting to the Beijing Film Academy. Her first television appearance in 2003 was in the period romance drama The Story of a Noble Family (), based on Zhang Henshui's book of the same name. The series received the highest ratings on CCTV as well as positive feedback from the audience. In the same year, she was chosen by Zhang Jizhong to play Wang Yuyan in Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils, an adaptation of Louis Cha's wuxia novel of the same name. The series was broadcast in Taiwan and received a rating of 5.69, making it Taiwan's highest-rated Chinese drama. Liu's role as the charming Wang Yuyan earned her the affection of "Fairy Sister" by the media and fans.

Liu appeared in Chinese Paladin, a fantasy action drama based on the role-playing game Legend of Sword and Fairy. Following the drama, the actress earned a cult following and boosted her celebrity in China.

Liu earned acclaim for her appearance and a surge in fame after the drama premiered. At the 6th China Golden Eagle TV Art Festival, she was voted as the "Golden Eagle Goddess" for the same year.

Liu followed television's success in television, then stepped into the big screen. She began working with William Morris Agency (WMA) in 2007 and was later cast in her first Hollywood film, The Forbidden Kingdom. Golden Sparrow, an orphanage seeking revenge against her parents' murderer, played Golden Sparrow. She appeared in Love in Disguise (2010) opposite Taiwanese singer-actor Wang Leehom.

She appeared in A Chinese Ghost Story, an adaptation of Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio, in 2011; the same year, she was cast as Wu Qing (Emotionless) in Gordon Chan's wuxia film The Four Great Constables, based on Woon Swee Oan's book series The Four Great Constables. She appeared in two other sequels to the film series.

Liu received the Best Actress award at the fifth Macau International Film Festival for her role as Lingju and Diaochan in the 2012 historical film The Assassins.

Liu collaborated with Korean actor Rain on the romance film For Love or Money, which is based on Hong Kong novelist Amy Cheung's 2006 book of the same name. Despite the fact that the film did well at the box office, it was chastised for its plot and execution.

Liu appeared in The Third Way of Love (2015). Her performance in the film earned her the Most Anticipated Actress award at the 16th Chinese Film Media Awards. She was named the first Chinese ambassador of Dior Prestige in the same year and then became Tissot's global ambassador.
