Lisa Margaret Hannigan (born February 1981) is an Irish singer, writer, guitarist, and voice actress.

She began her musical career as a member of Damien Rice's band.

Sea Sew (2008), Passenger (2011), and At Swim (2016), three albums she began as a solo artist in 2007.

Both in Ireland and the United States have been recognized for Hannigan's music.

Hannigan is also the voice actor for the character Blue Diamond in Steven Universe, Rebecca Sugar's American animated television series.

Early life and education

Hannigan was born in Dublin but grew up in Kilcloon, County Meath, Ireland. She attended primary school at Scoil Oil Naofa in Kilcloon and enrolled at Trinity College Dublin to study French and art history.

Personal life

At Trinity College Dublin, Hannigan briefly studied English and art history. Damien Rice, an Irish singer-songwriter, became a new friend over the first week of university. Hannigan left university to travel with Rice around Europe.

Both Hannigan and Rice began to record music together in Ireland, including songs like "Unplayed Piano" and "Once I Loved." Hannigan appeared on Rice's first two solo albums as well as a number of EP's and live recordings. Both Irish artists performed for many years together and were in a band together, but Hannigan left Damien Rice and his band at the afternoon for a live show in Munich in 2007. Rice released a statement saying that their professional relationship had "run its creative course" in March 2007.

Hannigan started to concentrate on her solo career, which has resulted in three solo albums to date. Hannigan moved from Dublin to London in 2015 to begin a new life, which required her to write new material for her third studio album At Swim. She also started working on a part-time English literature degree.

Hannigan met Damien Rice at a Dublin concert in early 2001 while still in college. Rice enlisted Hannigan to perform on his 2002 album O and his later album "9," which were included in the hit "9 Crimes." During that time, she appeared with Rice as part of his band, providing vocal assistance and playing guitar, bass, or drums occasionally.

Hannigan returned to Dublin in 2007 and began a solo career. Any of Hannigan's live recordings were made available on trading networks radio shows.
