Lydia Susanna Hunt (born April 2, 1945), better known by her stage name Linda Hunt, is an American actress.

Hunt's breakthrough came after appearing in Popeye (1980), when she became the first person to win an Oscar portraying a character of the opposite gender. She has made a name for herself in films such as The Bostonians (1984), Dune (1985), Eleni (1991), The Blast (1994), Pocahontas (1992), More Than Fiction (2006), And Stranger than Fiction (2006). Hunt has also had a fruitful television career.

Rose appeared in the television film The New Chimpanzees (1987) and was narrated.

She appeared on Hallmark Hall of Fame in 1978 and 1989, Space Rangers in 1993, and Carnivale in 2005, and Nip/Tuck in 2009.

Hunt appeared on The Practice from 1997 to 2002.

Early life

Hunt was born in Morristown, New Jersey, on April 2, 1945. Raymond Davy Hunt (1902–1985), her father, was vice president of Harper Fuel Oil. Elsie Doying Hunt (1903 – 1994), a piano teacher at the Westport School of Music, performed with the Saugatuck Congregational Church Choir in Westport, Connecticut, where Hunt will be raised. Marcia, an older sister who was born 1940, has one sibling, an older sister. Hunt attended the Interlochen Arts Academy and graduated from the Goodman School of Drama at the Art Institute of Chicago (now DePaul University).

Personal life

Hunt has been in a relationship with psychotherapist Karen Kline since 1978. In 2008, the two were married.

Hunt was described as having hypochondrism as a youth. Hunts are 4 foot 9 inches (145 cm) tall.

Hunt is the ambassador for the Best Friends Animal Society.

Before she stepped on film and television, Hunt was a well-known live-stage actress. In 1975, she made her Broadway debut in Ah, Wilderness, a British musical theatre company. For her appearance in the 1984 play End of the World, she was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play. She has also received two Obie Awards for her work Off-Broadway in Top Girls and A Metamorphosis in Miniature.

In Wallace Shawn's play Aunt Dan and Lemon, Hunt portrayed Aunt Dan. She was a member of the Long Wharf Theatre Company in Connecticut, where she appeared in a production of Hamlet as the Player Queen. She had appeared in many other capacities.
