Career
His stage name derives from Xanax, the trade name for the prescription drug alprazolam. Leanos' name was first noticed on social media and YouTube. His fame has increased after the introduction of his song "Betrayed" in August 2017. The song debuted at number 64 on Billboard's Hot 100. Leanos' debut album, Total Xanarchy, was discussed in a XXL interview. The album features collaborations with musicians such as Diplo and Swae Lee. According to Billboard, Leanos announced his Total Xanarchy tour in December 2017, which sold out in five hours. Leanos considered moving his stage name to Diego in order to promote his anti-drug campaign, but he has since expressed some doubt about the pseudonym change.
On April 6, 2018, Leanos' debut studio album, Total Xanarchy, was released. Critics scathingly regarded the album, but it was a moderate commercial success, debuting at number ten on the Billboard 200 and selling 28,000 copies in its first week. The following month in May 2018, Leanos announced the mixtape Heartbreak Soldiers, which was announced on July 8, 2018. Leanos revealed in September 2018 that he had been working on an album titled Be Safe as a tribute to Mac Miller's last words he said to Leanos before his death.
Leanos has made a slew of contradictory claims about his yet-unveiled second album. He had intended to begin a Be Safe project in 2019, but it was ultimately scrapped due to production delays. He announced in November 2019 that his forthcoming album would be called When September Ends and that an accompanying album cover would be released, but that also didn't come to fruition. Leanos revealed in January 2020 that his album had been completed and that it would be named Sorry I Didn't Quit, a new album cover that took inspiration from Lil Wayne's Sorry 4 the Waiting, but the project seems to have been scrapped.
Leanos' first project in over three years, as a joint project with fellow SoundCloud rapper Chris Miles, took place on June 24th, 2022. Lil Tracy's contribution to the EP is included in the single "Miss Me."
