Woods began to rap in 2010 and began to work with musical companies such as Steaktown and even under the name "Sealab Vertical" in lieu of "just for money." Lil Uzi Vert debuted in the way someone described their rap flow, saying that their flow was "Fast, like a machine gun." Woods' debut, an EP titled Purple Thoughtz Vol. On January 19, 2014, the first one was released. Woods' tour was cancelled soon after due to Woods' comment that they must "focus." Woods headlined Powerhouse music festival in October 2017, along with Weeknd, Migos, and Cardi B at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Woods also appeared on Canadian rapper Nav's platinum-certified single "Wanted You." The song was released on November 3, 2017, Nav's 28th birthday, and it is from Nav's debut studio album, Reckless (2018).

"The Way Life Goes" music video was released on December 4, 2017, starring Trinidadian-American rapper Nicki Minaj. Following its peak on the Billboard Hot 100, the artist debuted at number 24. On February 6, 2018, Woods appeared on Stephen Colbert's "The Way Life Goes" alongside Kanye West on Travis Scott's "Watch" album, which was released on May 3, 2018. In the lead-up to the EP's debut, Red & White were released ten days later, with Uzi releasing a number of highly awaited songs exclusively on SoundCloud.
