Roland Powell was born on June 12, 1977 and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. To pay homage to his birthplace, Duval County, Florida, he adopted the stage name "Lil Duval." After graduating from First Coast High School, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia.
On April 1, 2014, Duval released "Wat Dat Mouf Do," his first solo single and music video. Trae tha Truth, a reality on Trae. In 2018, he released "Smile Bitch (Life My Best Life) starring Snoop Dogg and Ball Greezy, and the single peaked at number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100.
