Payne first auditioned for the fifth series of The X Factor in 2008, at 14 years old, before judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole, Danni Minogue, and Louis Walsh. After appearing on Frank Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon," Payne advanced to the first round of the first round.
