Liam Christopher O'Brien (born May 28, 1976) is an American voice actor, writer, and voice director in the Los Angeles area.

He has appeared in many English-language translations of Japanese anime, as well as a regular in dozens of video games and cartoons.

Gaara in Naruto, Viincent Law in Ergo Proxy, Captain Jushiro Ukitake in Bleach, Lloyd in Code Geass, Kenzo Tenma in Monster, and Nephrite in the Viz Media dub of Sailor Moon are among his main anime roles.

He appears in animated films such as Star Wars Rebels, Transformers: Robots in Disguise, Avengers Assemble, Wolverine, and the X-Men, as well as Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.

Early life

Liam Christopher O'Brien was born in Weehawken, New Jersey, on May 28, 1976. Lois Wiltse O'Brien's mother served as an educator as well as a quality assurance trainer and consultant. Cara is his sister. His family, who were Reformed Christians, was "raised by a Christian mother and attended 15 years of Christian education," but he would later describe himself as an agnostic. He started attending St. Peter's Preparatory School in high school. He stayed in theater on various productions around the country after moving to New York City to attend the New York University Tisch School of the Arts. Crispin Freeman was employed on a Romeo & Juliet set in Cincinnati, Ohio, which helped him re-overwork in New York.

Personal life

In 2002, O'Brien married voice actress Amy Kincaid. The couple have two children: a daughter and a son. They live in Los Angeles.

He has hyperacusis, a hearing disorder that makes him remarkably alert to everyday sounds.

Career

Although O'Brien has also voiced comedic characters such as Fukuyama in Girls Bravo, he confirms he frequently plays characters that are either mad or evil geniuses. He is also a cast member of the popular web series Critical Role, in which he and other voice actors play Dungeons & Dragons. At the 2019 Webby Awards, Critical Role was both the Webby Award winner and the People's Voice winner in the "Games (Video Series & Channels) category; the show was also a Finalist and a Honor Winner; Audience Honor Winner. After being extremely popular, the Critical Role cast left the Geek & Sundry network in early 2019 and founded Critical Role Productions, the Critic Role cast. They set out to raise $750,000 on Kickstarter to produce an animated series of their first campaign, but instead, they raised over $11 million. In November 2019, Amazon Prime Video announced that they had purchased the streaming rights to this animated series, now titled The Legend of Vox Machina; O'Brien reprised his role as Vaindan. O'Brien appeared in Exandria Unlimited, a spinoff of Critical Role, in June 2021. O'Brien is also one of the narrators of the audiobook version of the novel Critical Role: Vox Machina (2021).
