LeToya Luckett Career

Early life and music career

Luckett was born in Houston, Texas, on March 11, 1981. Gavin, her older sister, is the older of two children. She grew up singing in her local Brentwood Baptist Church. She also took voice lessons to become an opera singer. Her father, who was also a singer, was extremely proud of his daughter's vocal abilities and wanted to bring her into the music industry. At the age of five, Luckett was allowed to perform her first solo at the age of five. "The lady just handed me the mic one Sunday and I sang," she recalled. She joined the children's choir and began performing in plays at her elementary school shortly thereafter. One day, she walked to her desk in class to find a child sitting there. Luckett begged her teacher to excuse Beyoncé Knowles from her octagon seat. They became friends and Luckett was invited to join Beyoncé's singing group Girl's Tyme, later known as Destiny's Child.

Luckett joined Beyoncé Knowles, LaTavia Roberson, and Kelly Rowland in 1993 to complete Destiny's Child, a Houston-based R&B group. Knowles as the group's lead vocalist, Rowland as second-lead vocalist, and Roberson and Luckett as background vocalists, with Roberson and Luckett as alto and Luckett as background vocalists, with occasional leads added to the group's harmony. The group started working with D'wayne Wiggins and later signed Columbia Records in 1997, but not before meeting Beyoncé's father Mathew Knowles.

According to the E!

The girls were compelled to sign management contracts with him before they could sign. Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Mathew, was a television special that compelled them to do so. A Luckett's mother had requested that the contracts be reviewed by an attorney, but Mathew refused. Luckett did however sign with him and joined the organization as a member of the company. The group, which had emerged from the Houston club scene, was awaiting a long-awaited act such as Dru Hill, SWV, and Immature, as part of the Men in Black movie soundtrack, and Destiny's Child was released in 1998. The album produced two singles, "No, No, No, No Part II" (featuring Wyclef Jean) and "With Me." The band subsequently toured as an opening act on TLC's "Fanmail Tour," and later made it on the soundtrack album of the romantic drama Why Fools Fall in Love with the song "Get on the Bus" (featuring Timbaland).

The Writing's on the Wall, the group's second album, was released in 1999. The album became one of the biggest selling albums by a female group, and it was rated eight times platinum in the United States. Luckett had more contributions to the second album in terms of co-writing than to his first album. "Bills, Bills, Bills," "Bug a Boo," "Say My Name," and "Jumpin' Jumpin" were among the album's four hit singles: "Bills, Bills, Bills," "Bug a Boo," "Say My Name," and "Jumpin' Jumpin" came from the album's "Jumpin' Jumpin." Both "Bills, Bills, Bills," and "Say My Name" were nominated for Grammy honors, and "Say My Name" received in two separate categories. The album had also been released in a "Houston Special Edition" featuring a bonus track, where Luckett led along with the other members, titled "Can't Help Myself."

Luckett and Roberson said they wanted their own manager because of the growing lack of contact with manager Mathew Knowles, in late 1999. The pair denied that they intended to fire Knowles but wanted to get outsiders to represent them. Luckett and Roberson were immediately excluded by the Knowles family and the company's leadership. Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin, two new members of "Say My Name"'s music video, were replaced by two new people when the music video first appeared in February 2000. Luckett and Roberson brought a complaint alleging mistreatment of trust and fiduciary duties and asking unspecified compensation. Luckett and Roberson brought the lawsuit against Beyoncé and Kelly, but Mathew was able to sue Mathew. The lawsuit was eventually settled, with Luckett and Roberson receiving royal honours for their contributions as founding members of the company. Luckett and Roberson filed a new lawsuit against Destiny's Child's Survivor shortly after the company's publication of a new one in March 2002. They said that the album's lead single, "Survivor," broke their previous contract due to the song's lyrics. The case was thrown out of court once more.

It was revealed on MTV News' website that Luckett and Roberson had formed Anjel, a new group after months of media speculation. Naty Quinones and Tiffany Beaudoin were selected as members after multiple auditions. With the support of R&B group Jagged Edge, the group held a 22-song demonstration in Atlanta, Georgia. The group appeared in Jagged Edge's video for "Where the Party Is At (Remix)" by Jagged Edge. However, the production company (581 Entertainment) that managed the company collapsed, and Anjel's members went on to pursue solo projects. The tracks were later leaked on the internet.

Luckett joined Noontime, an Atlanta-based management and production company, after the Anjel project fell through. She appeared on Noontime and then signed with Capitol Records in 2003. She began working on her first solo album right away. In 2004, "You Know What I Want" was the first commercial song to be released, and "All Eyes on Me" followed next year. On her debut album "I's Already Written," "What Love Can Do," on the Coach Carter soundtrack, and "This Is My Life" with former boyfriend and rapper Slim Thug on his album Already Platinum. In July 2006, LeToya's self-titled debut album was released in July and debuted at number one on the United States' charts. Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip Albums charts. LeToya was certified gold after one month, but platinum by December 2006 had been issued on the album. Destiny's Child's debut on the Billboard 200 and gain platinum status in the United States are Luckett and Beyoncé Knowles.

The album is a hip-hop inspired R&B production. Jermaine Dupri, Scott Storch, Teddy Bishop, B. Cox, and musical guests Slim Thug, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, and Bun B. "All Eyes on Me" was originally planned as Luckett's debut single, but "Torn" was eventually chosen instead. The ballad (produced by Teddy Bishop) was released in March 2006 and became a R&B hit. The album debuted on Billboard, peaking at number two on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart.

Despite Torn's radio appearance, her second single, "She Don't," was released to radio, and Slim Thug's Access Granted premiered in July 2006. The single had moderate success, racking at number 17 on the Hot R&B/Hop chart, earning the single as the 17th on the Hot R&B/Hop chart. "Obvious" was the third single selected in November 2006. According to Billboard, the song had a 94% chance of becoming a hit but due to the merger of Capitol Records and Virgin Records, all promotional funds were frozen, so the single was never officially announced. Luckett was also named "One of the Best New Artists of 2006" by AOL Music, number two on Rap-Up magazines' "Top 5 Breakthrough Artists of 2006," and multiple nominations from the NAACP, the Soul Train Music Awards, and the Teen Choice Awards. Luckett appeared on 106 & Park, The Center, The Black Carpet, and The H-Town Chick, a three-part reality series series special that aired from May to July 2006. Luckett's experiences during her summer promotional tour as well as insight into her personal life since Destiny's Child were chronicled on the series. Fans of the "Torn" video had the opportunity to vote on the final outcome of the show. Many who had the most successful "Torn" in an online submitted video were rewarded in a Cingular sponsored lip-sync competition. Luckett appeared in the 2006 "Pantene Total You" tour, as her opening act, in addition to a national radio tour, club appearances, and a short European and Asian appearance, and was welcomed by Mary J. Blige to accompany her in the summer tour, The Breakthrough Experience Tour.

Luckett revealed in July 2006 that she would be naming Lady Love on her forthcoming album, as well as "Don't Let Me Get Away." Slim Thug, Killa Kyleon, Bun B, and Bun B were among the dozens of rappers on December 10, 2007, according to a buzz track named Swagger, which includes rappers such as Slim Thug, Killa Kyleon, and Bun B. Luckett appeared on Webbie's single "I Miss You" in 2008, which was a moderate success.

On August 25, 2009, Luckett's second solo album was released. Lady Love was born in 2007, with a 2008 release scheduled several times. This was postponed due to a lack of funds related to Capitol Records and Virgin Records merger that had had earlier influenced the release of her third single "Obvious" by a lack of funds. Lady Love's release date was forecast to be May 19, 2009, but it was later extended to June 16, 2009, which then fell to August 25, 2009. Luckett revealed a five-track sampler on May 19, 2009, amid a lot of anticipation for the album's debut. The sampler features "Not Anymore" as the first single and 1 minute 30-second snippets of "Regret," "She Ain't Got...", "Lady Love," and "Matter." A day earlier, the album was released in the United States and around the world on August 25, 2009. A more detailed version of the album (bearing a Parental Advisory label) was also released. In each section, the sets, costumes, and props change to reflect the latest trends, fashions, and styles of those years.

However, the single was more popular in Japan, where it ranked number 58 on the Japan Hot 100 at number forty-nine.
