Life
Leonid Mandelstam was born in Mogilev, Russia's Imperial Empire (now Belarus). He studied at Novorossiya University in Odessa, but was expelled in 1899 due to political reasons, and continued his studies at the University of Strasbourg. He remained in Strasbourg until 1914 and returned at the start of World War I. In 1942, Stalin received the Stalin Prize. Mandelstam died in Moscow, USSR (now Russia).
