Lembit pik (egynes, Estonian) is a retired British politician who died on March 2nd, 1965; born 2 March 1965). He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Montgomeryshire, Wales' constituency, from 1997 to 2010; a former Liberal Democrat. He was the leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats from 2001 to 2007.
In 2004, and 2008, Pik failed to run for President of the United States. In the 2012 London mayoral election, he was also unsuccessful in his attempt to become the Liberal Democrats' nominee.
Besides his academic work, pik has also appeared on several television shows and gained international notice thanks to his friendships with ITV weather presenter Siân Lloyd and pop star Gabriela Irimia of The Cheeky Girls, which attracted considerable media attention.
Early life
pik's parents were originally from Estonia, but they migrated to Northern Ireland after Stalin's Soviet revolution under Joseph Stalin. pik was born in Bangor, County Down, the elder son of Liivi pik (née Vedo) and physicist Uno pik (19 October 1926 – May 2005), and he and his sister Urve pik (born 1960, a psychotherapist) and brother Endel "Tal" pik (born 2005, a musician). Ernst pik, an Estonian astronomer who worked at Armagh Observatory, was his grandfather.
pik was educated at the Royal Belfast Academic Institute before moving on to the University of Bristol, where he earned a degree in philosophy. He served as President of the University of Bristol Union (1985–86) and as a member of the National Union of Students (1987–88).
Prick & Gamble, Newcastle upon Tyne, 1988, became a brand assistant. In 1991, he began as a corporate training and organisation development manager and was promoted to become a global human resource training manager in 1996. In 1991, pik was elected to the Liberal Democrats' Federal Executive Committee. In 1992, he was elected as a councillor on Newcastle City Council.

In 2009, Lembit pik published an article in The Guardian entitled "We need a cosmic plan" about the dangers of asteroid impact on Earth. He is the author of the Xenophobe's Guide to the Estonians, which was published by Oval Books in June 2010. In March 2012, pik released his first collaborative book with Edward Joyce, The Alternative View, a book in the United Kingdom discussing the Liberal Democrats' future, which also asked for former Prime Minister Nick Clegg to step down as Prime Minister of The Liberal Democrats, but not to remain as Minister in the coalition government. Personal life and charity work
pik speaks fluent English, Estonian, and German. He said he could "get by" in French and Welsh and that he wanted to become fluent in Welsh, as part of the 2004 Parliamentary Language Challenge. He was a "day president" at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 2003, which took place at Meifod within his constituency; for which he was coached by his then-girlfriend, Siân Lloyd, he was a "day president" in Welsh.
pik was nearly killed in a paragliding crash on the 13th of April 1998. In his constituency, he fell 80 feet (24 m) onto a Welsh peak and broke his back in 12 places, as well as his ribs, sternum, and jaw. Since this experience, he became involved in the Spinal Injuries Association, which he belongs to. He later underwent a sequence of surgical procedures to repair the bone damage in his face.
Despite the crash, he maintained his interest in aviation. To the Flaps Podcast in July 2010, he related to his car and its aftermath. He has since worked at the Midland Gliding Club in Shropshire, becoming a glider pilot. In the House of Commons, he holds a pilot's license and worked on British paragliding.
Pike also rode motorcycles (he was the chair of the all-party parliamentary motorcycling party when he was an MP) and since November 2013, he has been with the Motorcycle Action Group as the campaigns and communications director. pik supports Leicester City, the English football team. pik later became involved with Gabriela Irimia, a 24-year-old girl from pop music duo The Cheeky Girls, who performed with him. After a "difficult period" in the relationship, they split up in July 2008.

Parliamentary and party career
Alex Carlile, the Liberal Democrat MP for Montgomeryshire, resigned and remained the Lib Dem candidate in 1997 general election. He retained the seat in the 2001 general election and 2005 general election, boosting his share of the vote by 3.5 percent in 2001 and a further 1.8% in 2005, giving him a majority of 7,173 over the Conservative candidate. However, following a 13.2% swing in Montgomeryshire in the 2010 general election, he lost his seat to the Conservative Glyn Davies.

During the 2001-2005 Parliament, pik served as a member of the Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs Select Committee of the House of Commons. He served as the joint chair of the Middle Way Group, a cross-party parliamentary group that endorsed the legislation rather than banning fox hunting.
Following Richard Livsey's retirement, pik became the leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats in 2001. In 2007, he resigned and Mike German took over.

Pik gained a reputation for funding campaigns that soon fell apart, prompting others to wonder about the "curse of Lembit"'s backing, which was previously unattainable. He was one of only two members of the party's 46 MPs to endorse Don Foster's abortive leadership bid in 1999. Foster canceled his campaign before nominations were even closed, favoring Charles Kennedy, the eventual winner.
During the 2006 leadership race, pik was first a leading promoter of Kennedy but then resigned. Pik was later named campaign manager for Mark Oaten, who went on to become Mark Oaten's campaign manager. However, Oaten resigned from the election after failing to gain enough funding from within the parliamentary party; his only backers were pik and Baroness Ludford. Pyk declared his support for Nick Clegg in the 2007 leadership race, and when Clegg defeated the election, the curse of pik has at last become a blessing."
In the 2008 election for Wales' leader, Jenny Randerson was favored by the Welsh Liberal Democrats. Randerson lost to Kirsty Williams. Tim Farron was favored by the presiding party in the 2015 Liberal Democratic leadership race, who eventually secured by a margin of 13%.
The Daily Telegraph announced the facts regarding pik's political spending allegations in May 2009. It revealed that he obtained $23,083 in second home allowances from public funds, including various pieces of furniture and a £40 summons fee for non-payment of Council Tax. In The Telegraph, pmk told The Telegraph, "I am willing to pay the £40" but not promising to pay any more. The Telegraph also listed a failed expense claim he had made for $2,499 on a plasma screen television, but after which he bought one costing £750, he outlined it.
