Lemar Life

Lemar Obika (born 4 April 1978), also known as Lemar, is an English singer, songwriter, and record producer.

Lemar has had a string of chart success in the United Kingdom, Europe, and Australia.

He came to fame after finishing third in third place on the first series of British talent show Fame Academy, which was won by songwriter David Sneddon. Lemar has had seven top-ten UK hits and sold over two million albums since being a teenager.

He is known as one of the most popular musicians to come out of a reality television show.

Lemar has also received two Brit Awards and three MOBO Awards to date, as well as his fifth studio album in 2012.

Early life

Lemar Obika was born in Tottenham, North London, England, to Nigerian parents. He grew up listening to R&B and soul music. He used to sing at home with his siblings, pretending to be Michael Jackson and the Jacksons. He was 17 when he appeared at 'The Temple' in Tottenham, England, in honor of American singer Usher. At the time, he was designing a website to sell logos for the Ericsson PH337 phone. Later on, he dropped out on a chance to study pharmacy at Cardiff University in order to pursue a musical career. Lemar had some success supporting several artists, including American girl groups Destiny's Child and Total, on their UK club tours, and after several years, he was able to land a BMG recording contract. He released his debut single "Got Me Saying Ooh" shortly after this. Due to BMG's recent consolidation, the record label fell out in less than a year. He had to take up as an accounts manager at NatWest in Enfield, North London, before learning about it. His mother died of cancer at the age of 24, and Eric Clapton's "Toes in Heaven" brought "clarity" and he hopes to "write songs as moving as this."

Personal life

He is the ambassador for The Prince's Trust.

Lemar became a father for the first time with long-term partner Charmaine Powell, who gave birth to a girl named Nyiema Obika in London, weighing 7 pounds, on January 19, 2008. Uriah Obika, Lemar and Charmaine's son, had another child, Lemar and Charmaine. The couple married in St Mary the Virgin, Monken Hadley, on July 17, 2010.

Lemar is a fan of Tottenham Hotspur's English football team. Jonathan Obika, a footballer who plays for Morecambe F.C., and Sam Oji, his cousin, played for Birmingham City.

Lemar had an accumulated wealth of £4 million as of May 2009.

Lemar Career

Career

In 2002, Lemar was the first public notice on the BBC's Fame Academy, a mixture of a talent hunt and a reality television show. He received accolades for his rendition of "Let's Stay Together" by Al Green and performed a duet with Lionel Richie on "Easy" in the finals of the program. Despite finishing third in the show, which was won by David Sneddon, he stole the eye of fellow British soul singer Beverley Knight, who invited her to perform a duet with her at the Hammersmith Apollo.

Sony Music was so taken with his potential that they signed him to a five-year contract worth £1 million. He was also chosen to represent the United Kingdom in Eurobest, finishing fifth (the eventual winner being Chenoa from Spain).

In early 2003, Lemar's second single "Dance (with U)" debuted at number two on the UK Singles Chart. His first album Dedicated was released in 2003, with additional singles "50/50" and "Another Day" also charting in the United Kingdom. He is also one of the artists on Band Aid 20's single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" "I love you."

Lemar's eighth album, "It's Not That Easy," was his sixth top ten hit on the United Kingdom, hitting on September 4th. The album debuted on Lemar's best charting album to date, peaking at number three on the UK Albums Chart, outperforming Time to Grow (number eight) and Dedicated (number sixteen). "Someone Should Tell You" and "Tick Tock" were two additional singles from the album. Lemar was planning to arrive in a makeshift limousine, with James May from the BBC's Top Gear as the pilot. After May's repeated failures, Lemar became dissatisfied with May and had to get out of the car. He appeared on Sway's first single "Saturday Night Hustle" from the album The Signature LP.

The collection, which also includes ten hit singles from his four studio albums, features four new tracks. These are in addition to "The Way Love Goes" and "What About Love," a duet with JLS on a re-recorded version of Lemar's own 2003 ballad "What About Love." On March 19, Lemar and JLS performed the song together on Sport Relief.
