Patty Seymour (born January 23, 1960) is a semi-retired professional wrestler best known by her ring name Leilani Kai.
Right after high school, she began training with The Fabulous Moolah.
Kai defeated Wendi Richter in the 1980s as part of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF)'s Rock 'n' Wrestling Connection, a storyline that combined wrestling and music, to become the Women's Champion.
Kai, on the other hand, lost the championship at the inaugural WrestleMania tournament.
She was then joined by Judy Martin in a tag team that would be known as The Glamour Girls.
The team also won the Women's Tag Team Championship twice (managed by Jimmy Hart) and the LPWA Tag Team Championship once more.
Kai appeared in WrestleMania X for a brief period of time in her later career, fighting for the Women's Championship. Patty Stonegrinder, a female wrestler who competed for World Championship Wrestling under the name Patty Stonegrinder, earned the NWA World Women's Championship.
Personal life
Seymour has been training with nunchucks for at least two years in addition to wrestling. She also rides motorcycles, deep sea fishes, and hunts wild boar. Seymour had rented an apartment in Hawaii before.
Professional wrestling career
Seymour was introduced by The Fabulous Moolah in 1975, right after she finished high school. She was born in Florida but Seymour was given the ring name Leilani Kai because Moolah thought she looked a little bit Hawaiian. During her early career, her fellow wrestlers bestowed upon her the nickname "The Hawaiian Princess." Moolah brought her four weeks after she started her training, a two-week tour of Alaska. She worked in Oklahoma, Minnesota, California, and New York over the past few years, including in Oklahoma, Minnesota, California, and New York. Kai first began working with Judy Martin, who would be her future tag team partner in 1979.
Wendi Richter defeated The Fabulous Moolah at MTV's The Brawl to End It All for the WWF Women's Championship in 1984, ending what was billed as the longest championship reign in professional wrestling history (Moolah's 28-year reign, though she won and lost the title on several occasions, and Richter ended a 7-year reign). As a result, Kai, who had been trained by Moolah, fought Richter and defeated her for the title at The War to Settle the Score in early 1985, with Moolah in her corner and composer Cyndi Lauper in Richter's corner. Richter, on the other hand, regained the title at the first-ever WrestleMania a month later. These matches were part of the WWF's "Rock 'n' Wrestling Connection," an era that mixed both music and professional wrestling.
Kai was paired with Judy Martin, and the pair took the WWF Women's Tag Team Championship from the champions Velvet McIntyre and Desiree Petersen in Egypt in August 1985, although this match's existence has been disputed. In August 1986, Kai won the All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling Championship in Chisa Nagayo, where she had previously lost the title in April 1987.
Kai and Martin were called The Glamour Girls in November 1987, and she underwent a makeover of her image that involved bleaching her dark hair platinum blonde at the request of their manager Jimmy Hart. The pair appeared at the first Survivor Series in 1987 as part of then champion Sherri Martel's team's effort to face the Fabulous Moolah's crew. Martel's team, which includes Martel, the Glamour Girls, Dawn Marie, and Donna Christanello, have been injured along the way to The Fabulous Moolah's crew, including Moolah, Velvet McIntyre, Rockin' Robin, and the Jumping Bomb Angels (Noriyo Tateno and Itsuki Yamazaki). In 1988, Kai and Martin feuded with the Jumping Bomb Angels from Japan for the Women's Tag Team Championship. At the first Royal Rumble event in 1988, the two teams met for a second out of three falls matches, with the Jumping Bomb Angels winning the gold. Kai and Martin regained the title in June 1988, just months later, when the company lost interest in the women's division in 1989.
Adnan El Kassey led the Glamour Girls into the newly formed Ladies Professional Wrestling Association (LPWA). They won the LPWA Tag Team Championship in February 1991 from Misty Blue and Heidi Lee Morgan's team. Leilani Kai appeared on the WCW Main Event in November 1991, losing to Madusa. They retained the Tag Team Championship against Malia Hosaka and Bambi at the only LPWA pay per view Superladies Showdown in 1992. When the promotion was over, the position was scrapped.
Kai returned to the WWF on March 20, 1994, when WrestleMania X defeated Alundra Blayze in a Women's Championship match. She defeated Madusa in a losing effort during WCW WorldWide on October 20, 1996. Kai returned to World Championship Wrestling under the name Patty Stonegrinder, most often against Madusa.
Kai competed in the NWA Mid-Atlantic Women's Championship with Strawberry Fields in 2000, winning the trophy a total of three times. Kai competed for the Professional Girl Wrestling Association's (PGWA) championship in Branson, Missouri, winning the belt in 2002. Pippa L'Vinn defeated her for the title in 2002, but not in 2002.
In a dim match on a Total Nonstop Action Wrestling pay-per-view basis, she defeated Madison to win the NWA World Women's Championship in a dark match. At the NWA 55th Anniversary Show against AJ Sparx in October 2003, she defended the belt against AJ Sparx. After Kai no-showed several functions, she was eventually barred of the title by NWA President Bill Behrens on June 19, 2004.
Amber O'Neal was one of the female wrestlers who became less popular in the ring, and she began training female wrestlers as a result. She has also worked as a mentor for the Women of Wrestling, which is based in California.
Kai would make his Pro Wrestling Syndicate Bombshells debut against Sumie Sakai on September 28, 2013 in Iselin, NJ, on September 5, 2013.
Kai appeared on the West Coast Wrestling Connection on May 31, 2014, slapping Kylie Sutton for allegedly implying she was old. Kai was supposed to face Sutton in a match next week. She begged her boss Jonny Fairplay to take her place after refusing to participate. After Kai entered the ring and assaulted her, Sutton won the match by DQ before referees pulled her off.
