Lee Sang-hyeok (born May 7, 1996), better known by his in-game name Faker, is a South Korean professional League of Legends player.

Formerly known as "GoJeonPa" on the Korean server, he was picked up by SK Telecom in 2013 and is currently the mid laner for SK Telecom T1, which competes in the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK).Faker is renowned for his high mechanical skill and extremely versatile champion pool.

He is best known for playing LeBlanc, Zed, Syndra, Azir, Ahri, and Ryze.

He is the first player to have reached 1,000 kills in the LCK, and the second to have played 500 games. Faker is one of only two players to have won the League of Legends World Championship three times, having done so in 2013, 2015 and 2016.

He has also won the All-Star Paris 2014, Mid-Season Invitational tournament in 2016, Mid-Season Invitational tournament in 2017 and IEM World Championship 2016.

Faker has won a total of $1,254,240.23 in prize money, and is ranked #64 in prize money won across all eSports.

He is widely considered to be the best League of Legends player of all time.

He owns 3 different League of Legends skins as a result of winning World Championship, which include SKT T1 Zed (2013), SKT T1 Ryze (2015) and SKT T1 Syndra (2016).

Early life

Lee was born in Seoul on May 7, 1996. He and his brother were raised by their grandparents and their father, Lee Kyung-joon, in Gangseo District, Seoul. Lee always loved puzzles and video games, often playing custom maps for Warcraft III and the MOBA Chaos during his teenage years. He discovered League of Legends in late 2011, and quickly became adept at the game. He attended Mapo High School, the same high school that Deft of DRX attended, but dropped out to join SKT T1 K and pursue a career in esports.

Lee was picked up by SK Telecom T1 K in 2013 as their starting mid laner. SKT T1 K dominated the Korean scene, and Lee led them to victory in the inaugural League of Legends World Championship in October 2013. Lee cemented his position as a hero in the HOT6iX Champions Summer 2013 by beating KT Rolster Bullets mid laner Yoo "Ryu" Sang-wook, which would then become one of League of Legends' most memorable moments in history.

SK Telecom T1 K won the OGN winter season in 2014, extending their undefeated run to the entire field without losing a single game. They would then progress to win All-Star Paris 2014. However, SKT T1 K's Winter season was not sustained, and the Spring and Summer seasons were ineligible for the 2014 World Championships. Riot Games modified the team rules in the following offseason so that each team's only have one team competing in each league. Lee reportedly turned down a $150,000 bid by a Chinese team after the 2014 season, preferring to remain in Korea on SKT. Lee had turned down contract offers from a number of Chinese firms, including one offering of 500 million ($425,403 USD) for streaming.

Lee "Easyhoon" Ji-hoon" Ji-hoon appeared in mid-lane position during 2015. Any one of the players may have been recalled into the game based on the squad's makeup. Lee had a pentakill against NaJin e-mFire in the LCK, including a pentakill against NaJin e-mFire with his LeBlanc. SKT finished first place in the summer and qualified to the world championship.

Lee and his team triumphed at the 2015 World Championship, despite losing only one game in the finals for a record of 15–1.

Lee and his crew began the 2016 season by winning the LCK Spring Split. SKT was rewarded with a spot in the 2016 Mid-Season Invitational after this triumph. MSI was the only major international tournament they had yet to win at this time. They were highly favored going into the tournament but they were soon unable to perform to their usual high standards, losing multiple games in the group competition. However, they managed to turn it around during the elimination round and eventually clinched the title by sweeping the North American team, Counter Logic Gaming, in the finals.

Lee became the first player to reach 1,000 kills in the LCK on July 11, 2016. His 1,000th kill was on MVP Beyond's Reksai, which he achieved on Malzahar.

SKT placed third in the 2016 LCK Summer Split, but by circuit points, they have qualified for the 2016 World Championship. The team made it to the playoff round after being swept through the group stage and advanced to the playoffs. They defeated the ROX Tigers in a close 3–2 draw in the semifinals. They defeated Samsung Galaxy in a close 3–2 series in the finals, winning their third world championship title. Lee was voted the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament by the Time.

Lee renewed his SKT deal with a "unprecedented bid," which was forecast to be more than $2.5 million USD.

On February 6, 2017, Lee watched his first live stream on Twitch and saw a record-breaking peak for a single streamer in the site's history. However, Tyler1, a new League of Legends streamer, broke the record in early 2018.

SKT dominated the group stage at the 2017 Mid-Season Invitational with a 8–2 record. In the semifinals, SKT defeated Flash Wolves 3–0 and G2 Esports 3–1 to finish as the first team to win the Mid-Season Invitational back to back.

Despite not winning the LCK Summer Split, SKT were still considered a favorite to lift the trophy for the third straight time at the 2017 World Championship. SKT barely defeated Misfits and Royal Never Give Up in the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively, before taking on Samsung Galaxy in a repeat of last year's final. Despite being favored going into the match, SKT were defeated 3–0 by SSG, effectively ending the SKT domination at the World Championship. Lee himself was seen to be empowered following the loss, and he was compelled by his teammates to console the Samsung Galaxy players post-game. Nevertheless, many League of Legends followers around the world were taken notice of this, with more affection and praise given to the team's legacy and Lee for his continuing success.

On July 17, 2018, Lee played his 400th match in the LCK. They defeated their opponent, MVP, 2–1.

SKT finished fourth in the 2018 Korea Regional Finals, losing to qualify for the 2018 World Championship.

Lee had re-signed with SKT for another three years as of Friday, November 20, 2018.

SKT won the 2019 LCK Spring final on April 13, 2019, earning Lee his seventh LCK title.

SKT was the LCK at the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational in May 2019. They finished second in second place on the group stage but losing 2–3 to G2 Esports in the semifinals.

SKT and three other LCK clubs captured their first Rift Rivals championship title on July 7, 2019, beating LPL teams by 3–1. Lee became the first and only player to have won all of the League of Legends international tournaments after winning his first Rift Rivals title (Mid-Season Invitational, World Championship, Rift Rivals, All-Star) arranged by Riot Games.

During the LCK Summer Playoffs, Lee played his 500th match in the LCK on August 21, 2019. With a KDA of 7/1/14, he won his 500th game against Afreeca Freecs in Qiyana. In the 2019 Summer LCK Final, he and his coworkers won their eighth LCK title together on August 31, 2019. His team qualified for the 2019 League of Legends World Championship in the LCK's first seed.

After defeating Splyce at the 2019 World Championship on October 27, 2019, Lee won his 100th international victory.

SKT was then defeated by G2 Esports in a semifinals series for the 2019 World Championships, losing 1–3.

Lee had re-signed with them for three years, which will extend into 2022, according to T1's February 18, 2020. He has since become a part of T1 Entertainment and Sports.

Lee became the first player to reach 2,000 kills in the LCK on March 5, 2020. Zoe was the champion who scored his 2,000th kill.

Lee won his ninth LCK title after he and his crew defeated Gen.G in the 2020 LCK Spring finals on April 25, 2020.

Lee played his 600th game in the LCK on February 3, 2021. He is the first LCK player to reach the 600 game mark. NS RedForce, his 600th game, was against NS RedForce, who remained in Orianna and had a KDA of 2/0/6. He won the game and was named MVP of the tournament. This was his 399th victory in the LCK.

Lee became the first player to win by 400th in the LCK on February 6, 2021. Sett was the champion chosen for his 400th victory over Fredit Brion, and the winner was his 400th victory.

Lee was disqualified in the Semifinals of the 2021 League of Legends World Championship, defeating DWG KIA 3-2 in a best-of-five series. His team qualified as the 3rd seed from the LCK via the LCK Regional Qualifier. In the Brackets/Knockout Stage of the tournament, his team had a overall record of 5-1 and 5-2. To reach the Semifinals, his team defeated Edward Gaming, 100 Thieves, and Hanwha Life Esports.

T1 reported on November 19, 2021, that they had re-signed with Lee.

Lee played his 1,000th game against KT Rolster on February 18, 2022. He was the second player to reach the record. He won the game after being locked in Leblanc.

Lee played his 700th LCK game on February 20, 2022. He is the first person to reach the LCK's 700 game mark. In an NS RedForce match in which he was locked in Ahri for the match, he was unable to play.

Lee was a member of the 2022 LCK Spring Split and posted an 18-0 record in the regular season, making the first team to reach this record since the league's inception. Lee won his 10th LCK title in the playoffs, defeating Gen.G in the finals 3–1.

Lee became the first player to win 500 matches in the LCK on July 8, 2022. The match was against Gen.G.
