Laxmi Agarwal Life

Laxmi Agarwal (born 1 June 1990) is an Indian campaigner for Stop Sale Acid and a TV host.

She is a survivor of acid attack and campaigns for the rights of acid attack victims.

Nadeem Khan, a 32-year-old man who had rejected her advances at age 15, was assaulted in 2005 at the age of 15, who later regretted it.

By Hindustan Times, she was told, among other things, in a series on acid attack victims.

She has also campaigned against acid attacks by getting 27000 signatures for a petition to reduce acid production and taking it to the Indian Supreme Court.

Her petition caused the Supreme Court to order the central and state governments to regulate acid use, and the Parliament to make acid charges more accessible.

With #StopStopSaleAcid, Laxmi began this campaign, gaining national recognition.

For her campaign Stop Sale Acid, she was recently given the International Women Empowerment Award 2019 by IWES, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. She is also the former head of the Chhanv Foundation, a NGO that works to support the victims of acid attacks in India.

Laxmi was named by US First Lady Michelle Obama with an International Women of Courage award in 2014.

Deepika Padukone, a leading actress in Nepal, was also selected as the NDTV Indian of the Year.

Early life and the attack

Laxmi was born in New Delhi in a poor family.

When Laxmi was 15 years old and an 11th-grade student, she was confronted by a man living in her neighborhood, Naeem Khan, who was 32 years old, a tragedy emerged in 2005. He suggested to Laxmi but she turned down his offer. She did not tell anyone about it because her family would've blamed her and stopped her studies had she been sick. Laxmi Agrawal, ten months ago, was returning from Khan market at ten:45 in the morning after Naeem told her she loves her and wants to marry her. She did not reply. Naeem and Kamran were stabbed with acid by Naeem and Kamran in no time (Naeem's older brother). When riding his motorcycle, Kamran called Laxmi's name from behind. Naeem threw acid straight at her face from the backseat as Laxmi looked behind as a reaction to her name. Laxmi fainted and after regaining consciousness, she attempted to walk up and ask for assistance, but she was met with multiple road accidents. Arun Singh, a man from Delhi, called the police, but the skin was fading from the acid, and he realized that it was too late to ask for assistance. Someone else sprayed water on her face in the hopes of minimizing the burns, but the acid caused the reaction to rise and burn her neck. Arun, then somehow managed to get her into the back seat of his vehicle. Burn holes in the seat covers were caused later. She was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. The police officers arrived at the hospital by hand. Arun then questioned Laxmi about her family and where she lived. He came home, notified her family, and took them from their house to the hospital. She underwent multiple surgeries, including eye surgery. Naeem Khan was arrested four days after the assault but it was released a month later. He got married right away. However, he was sentenced to life in prison after widespread demonstrations and media coverage.

Personal life

Laxmi Agarwal was in a relationship with social activist Alok Dixit. However, she has been separated from her partner since 2015, and Laxmi has refused to marry and instead opted for a live-in relationship. "We have agreed to live together until we die." However, we are also criticizing society by not getting married. We don't want people to attend our wedding or comment on my beauty. People are most concerned with a bride's appearances. "We decided not to have any wedding," Laxmi said. Their families have accepted the marriage and also that they did not have a formal wedlock.
