Dorthea Lauren Allegra Lapkus (born September 6, 1985) is an American actress, voice actress, comedian, and imitator best known for her appearance of Susan Fischer in Netflix's original film Orange Is the New Black and Jess.

Early life
Dorthea Lauren Allegra Lapkus was born in Evanston, Illinois, on September 6, 1985. She began filming sketches with her older brother and then attended Evanston Township High School, and later attended the annual student revue and variety show YAMO.
She began taking improv classes at the iO Theater in high school during her senior year of high school. She earned a degree in English from DePaul University in 2008, but she continued to perform improv most nights. When she was young, Lapkus recalled watching many television sitcoms and Saturday Night Live for triggering her to be a comedian.
Following her graduation, she migrated to New York City, where she was active with the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. She moved to Los Angeles in 2010 after living in New York City for 15 months.
Personal life
On May 3, 2014, Lapkus married actor and improviser Chris Alvarado. On February 14, 2016, she announced their divorce on February 14, 2016, and the couple divorced later this year.
On October 5, 2018, Lapkus married actor Mike Castle. Lapkus and her husband announced on May 18, 2021, that they were expecting a baby girl in the summer. In 2021, she gave birth to Holly, a daughter.
Career
Lapkus gained experience in a variety of commercials, including Snickers and Jack in the Box, as well as a sketch on Jimmy Kimmel Live! She rose from this success, and during pilot season she earned a supporting role in the short-lived Are You There, Chelsea?
Lapkus was cast as security guard Susan Fischer on the first and second seasons of Netflix's Orange is the New Black after self-taping her audition. In 2015, Lapkus and the cast received the Screen Actor Guild Award for Outstanding Contribution by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
Lapkus launched their own podcast on the Earwolf network in 2014, with special guest Lauren Lapkus, in which each week their guest is the host of their own podcast, and she appears as a fictional character on their show. Paul F. Tompkins, Betsy Sodaro, Andy Daly, Nick Kroll, and Scott Aukerman were among her guests. She has said she "never intended to get into podcasts at all," and that it is strange that she has one.
