LP Career

Career

David Lowery of the band Cracker seen LP performing and starring them on "Cinderella," a forgotten track on the band's 1998 album, Gentleman's Blues. Lowery followed up by releasing Heart-Shaped Scar, the LP's first album, which was released in 2001 via Koch Records. Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol, LP's second album, was released in June 2004 by Lightswitch Records. They collaborated with singer and music producer Linda Perry on the record. Despite extensive touring to promote the album's arrival and positive comments from music critics, the album did not receive widespread attention.

LP debuted at the music conference South by Southwest in 2006 and is said to have sparked a bidding war amongst major music labels, prompting L.A. Reid to his The Island Def Jam Music Group record label, part of the Universal Music Group. However, LP stayed on the job due to artistic inconsistencies. They signed with SoBe Entertainment in 2007, an independent record company, in 2007, with the album tracks they had written at the major label. One of the songs they had written on The Island Def Jam Music Group with Billy Mann, "Love Will Keep You Up All Night" was released in late 2007 on the Backstreet Boys album Unbreakable. "Wasted" by LP from the album Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol, was written and performed by the singer. "Wasted" was used as the theme song for Noggin's teen block, "Wasted" was included in The N. MTV's The Hills also featured LP's song "Damage Is Done" in mid-2010, and it was released on iTunes.

LP began writing songs for other artists in 2009, including several songs that ended up on Heidi Montag's album, which Warner Music Group released. "More Is More," LP co-wrote the single, as well as the album songs "Twisted," "Hey Boy" and "Love It or Not" on the radio. They co-wrote several songs for and with Montag, including "Look How I'm Doin" and "Who's That Girl," co-written by Cathy Dennis. A vocal hook from LP's "I'm With You" appears on "Cheers." Rihanna said "I love this song ("Cheers") in a 2010 interview with MTV News. That is one of my all time favorites on the album. It makes you feel like celebrating. It gives you a great feeling inside that you want to go out and have a drink. "People can't wait for the weekend." The LP's major label songwriting breakthroughs continued, and the two co-wrote "Beautiful People," performed by Christina Aguilera. The track was included on the Burlesque: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack album, which was released on November 22, 2010, via RCA Records.

In June 2011, LP co-wrote "Afraid to Sleep," which was performed by NBC's The Voice finalist Vicci Martinez and climbed to #10 on the iTunes Top Singles Chart, achieving #10 in the iTunes Top Singles Chart.
