Larry Michael Hankin (born August 31, 1940) is an American actor, singer, writer, comedian, and producer.

Charley Butts in Escape from Alcatraz (1979), Ace in Running Scared (1986), and Carl Alphonse in Billy Madison (1995).

He was a teenager in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Sergeant Balzak in Home Alone, Mr. Heckles in Friends, and Joe in Breaking Bad were among his Doobie roles.

Early life and Career

Hankin, a 1981 graduate of Far Rockaway High School and Syracuse University, where he befriended Carl Gottlieb. At one time, he was homeless.

Hankin appeared in the second city, training with improvisational theater legends Viola Spolin and Paul Sills, and in 1963, he moved to San Francisco to co-found another influential improv troupe, The Committee. Pt. was his first notable supporting role.

Hankin played Tom Pepper, the actor cast as Kramer on Seinfeld's pilot-within-a-TV show Jerry. In season 5 of Malcolm in the Middle, he played a homeless man. As the junkyard owner Old Joe, he appeared again with Bryan Cranston in seasons three and five of Breaking Bad. In the Netflix sequel film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Film, he reprised his old role from Breaking Bad.

In the 1964 educational film Too Tough to Care, one of Hankin's earliest appearances was playing Farley's lead character.

Hankin appeared in the episode "The Bums vs. the Reds" of the situation comedy The San Pedro Beach Bums in 1977. In a WKRP Cincinnati episode titled "Hotel Oceanview" that also stars Dr. Joyce Brothers as "Vicky Von Vicky."

In 1982, he was the dog catcher who tries to bring Sandy in Annie.

Hankin's short film Solly's Diner received him and the film's makers an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 1980.

Hankin was a founding member of the Commedia dell'arte improvisation group The Committee in 1963, which was located in San Francisco's North Beach district at an indoor bocce ball court.

She appeared in her 1986 hit song "What Have You Done for Me Lately" as a cook/waiter.

In the HBO series Barry in 2018, he portrayed a depressed Chechen hitman.
