LadBaby Career

Career

Mark Hoyle married Roxanne Hoyle (née Messenger) in May 2015 after eloping to Las Vegas; the two sons, Phoenix Forest and Kobe Notts, were born in 2016 and 2018, respectively; The family now lives in Nottingham, England. Mark, who was pregnant with their first child, developed "LadBaby" (reflecting the fact that he "was a lad and [he] was having a baby), in which he chronicled his day-to-day life as a first-time parent).

The LadBaby YouTube channel, Facebook page, and Instagram page all have over 1 million followers, 4.9 million followers, and 1.3 million followers as of December 2020. The majority of LadBaby's video collection, which Mark mainly posts on Facebook and YouTube, features life hacks that help him save money when faced with potentially costly parenting tasks. One vlog in June 2017, in which he bought a toolbox from a hardware store to use as a lunchbox for his son, went viral. He also created a baby walker made of pipes, a makeshift paddling pool made from a skip, and a makeshift baby gate made from half of a door. Two others were uploaded in February 2018, where the Hoyle couple's cars were wrapped with love heart stickers and photos of their faces. "Yes, mate!" LadBaby is also known for the catch. "It's often said in the videos." The Hoyles launched LadBaby & Sons, a spin-off YouTube channel in which their sons' involvement became more prominent. The channel mainly focuses on toy research and kid-friendly social media challenges.

The Hoyle couple's charity single, a parody of Starship's 1985 hit "We Built This City," was released on December 14, 2018. The amended lyrics had a sausage roll theme, with the refrain being changed to "We Built This City on Sausage Rolls." The Trussell Trust received all funds from the charity single. The song debuted on the UK Singles Chart, defeating Ava Max's "Sweet but Psycho" and Ariana Grande's "Thank U, Next" to the 2018 Christmas number one, making the Hoyles the first British YouTubers to top the charts. It also appeared in Australia's ARIA Digital Track Chart and the US Hot Rock Songs chart, peaking at #31 and #47 respectively.

The Hoyle pair released "I Love Sausage Rolls," a parody version of Alan Merrill's "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" on December 13. Nick Southwood, produced, mixed, and performed bass and lead guitar, co-wrote the new songs with the Hoyles. The single's coverage is based on Abbey Road's coverage. The album debuted as the top 40, smashing Stormzy (#2), Lewis Capaldi (#3), and Dua Lipa (#4), and spent one week in the top 40. The couple were the third act in the United Kingdom to have two consecutive Christmas number one singles and the first to have two consecutive novelty Christmas number one singles. The record fell from number one to number 57 on December 27, 2019, breaking the record for the biggest ever drop from top-75 (as per The Guinness Book of British Hit Singles list), as "Three Lions" would have crashed out of the 'hit parade' by dropping to number 97 after being ranked number one in 2018). As with their previous album, all proceeds went to The Trussell Trust. In an interview with The Guardian in 2019, Hoyle denied that he voted for the incoming Conservative government: "I'm sure they're going to do a fantastic job."

On December 13, the couple revealed their new Christmas single, "Don't Stop Believin'," a parody cover of "Don't Stop Believin" by Journey (which had reached number 2 in the UK charts when it was covered by the Glee Cast). Russ Abbott's "Atmosphere," former chart toppers Justin Bieber's "Megapolis") and Liam Gallagher's "All You're Dreaming Of" in the United Kingdom, were two of the Christmas Number One contenders in the United Kingdom's fight for the top spot. LadBaby's parody version of "Don't Stop Believin'" has a sausage roll theme, with proceeds going to The Trussell Trust, although the single's sleeve parodied Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.

Ronan Keating performed the song with 'LadBabyMum' Roxanne Hoyle on December 21, 2020, LadBaby's additional duet version of "Don't Stop Me Eatin'" on Friday. The single had sold over 116,000 copies so far, including both the original and Ronan's version.

Katie Thistleton, a journalist on BBC Radio 1, announced that it would be the top one for Christmas 2020 on December 25, 2020. Its 158,000 units climbed to the top of the charts, but 94% of the figure came from subscriptions (downloads and CDs rather than streaming). It was the best-selling single in the UK charts since Artists For Grenfell's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" reached the top of the charts in June 2017. With their first three singles, LadBaby became the third act to win three consecutive Christmas number ones and one of the few acts to top the charts.

"Don't Stop Me Eatin" dropped down the Official Chart Company's singles chart to number 78 on January 1, 2021, the first new track to drop out of the top 100 ('hit parade') from number one. In doing so, it tied for the shortest stay in a Top 100 singles chart record (as in The Guinness Book of British Hit Singles) with only one week in the top 75, with just one week in the top 75.

LadBaby revealed in December 2021 that they were aiming for their fourth consecutive festive Number 1 by releasing a new Christmas single starring Elton John and Ed Sheeran. Unlike some parodies, the new song "Sausage Rolls For Everyone" is based on a 2021 number one, "Merry Christmas," which went to top on the Official Singles Chart Top 100 for featured artists Ed Sheeran and Elton John, and is set to debut on December 16th, 2021. LadBaby finds his latest record against Wham's oldies! Adele and Gayle's hits in the previous year, as well as singles by Adele and Gayle. With The Food Bank Choir, an acoustic version of "Sausage Rolls For Everyone" was released (rather than Sheeran and John). The acoustic version also included a new video taken at St Margaret's the Queen Church (as it is where the Norwood and Brixton Food Bank is based) starring the Hoyles alongside stroke survivor Donna Kennedy and her 12-year-old son Ronan.

LadBaby's fourth Christmas No. 1 in a row, with a total of 136,445 (including 110,882 downloads and 4,898 CDs being sold), despite the original version of "Merry Christmas" bringing in over 45,000 sales (with this number topping 90,508 by the end). When "Merry Christmas" dropped to number 29 in the UK Top 40 on Sunday, the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir's "A Bridge Over You" dropped to number one on December 31, 2021, marking the beginning of the legendary climb from the top.

The success of LadBaby's Christmas has been sluggish by dark comedy group The Kunts, who have accused them of profiteering from poverty.
