KZ Tandingan Career

Life and career

Tandingan began singing as a child, but she had to stop early in her junior year of high school due to a throat disorder. She is alumna of the University of Southeastern Philippines, Davao City, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology degree.

Tandingan was a member of a local acoustic group before joining The X Factor Philippines.

After performing a jazzy version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" in the fourth week of the Judges' auditions, Tandingan was considered a young favorite. After receiving a standing ovation from all the judges, she was asked to perform once more. By The Fugees, an American hip-hop group, Tandingan obliged and performed "Ready or Not." She also demonstrated her rapping abilities with her second album. Both of the judges applauded Tandingan's. "A star is born in Digos," Nievera yelled. Since being posted on YouTube, Tandingan's audition video became viral. Before being taken down due to copyright issues, the video attracted nearly 1 million viewers before being deleted due to copyright issues. She sang "Mahirap Magmahal ng Iba" by the APO Hiking Society on Bootcamp and cried after she was selected for the Top 20. At the Judges' home visit, Tandingan sang "Killing Me Softly with His Song" by Roberta Flack. For the first time with teammate Allen Sta, she and her teammates landed on the bottom of the charts on week 9. Maria was born in the United States, but she survived elimination. After Allen Sta's death, Tandingan was Charice's last remaining act. Maria was ruled out on week 9 after being uninhibited. On October 7, 2012, she reached the grand finals and was announced the X Factor Philippines champion.

Tandingan won the Himig Handog competition on January 7, 2013 with the song entry titled "Scared To Death," written by Domingo Rosco Jr. The album was accompanied by a music video that was commissioned by the University of Santo Tomas and premiered on February 2 in Myx, Philippines. She performed the song in the grand finals at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on February 24, 2013. Overall, the album came in fourth place and came in third place for Best P-pop Love Song, awarding the writer of Tandingan's song one hundred thousand pesos in cash. On April 21, 2013, she toured around North America as a supporting act for pop band Side A. Tandingan's self-titled debut album debuted on May 2, 2013. Tandingan sang "Royals" on March 16, 2018, where she was the third person to perform. This week, it was a double elimination (after one contestant was too ill to perform and was delayed until the week), and the two singers with the lowest number of overall votes would be voted out of office, per the competition rules. Tandingan's time as a member of the show had a major influence on international music enthusiasts who were attracted by her unique and innovative musical style in the diverse music market. Social media commentators and the Chinese fans she has praised during her short time on the show reacted angrily to her eventual demise. After being banned, KZ Tandingan became the second most talked about a topic on Weibo, China's equivalent of Twitter.
