Kym Marsh Career

Music career

Marsh performed session vocals for artists including Matt Darey, the group Freaky Realistic, and the duo Hemstock & Jennings. She appeared on Norwegian on the latter's album "Arctic," which captured Paul van Dyk's interest, and was remixed and re-recorded with additional vocals from Jan Johnston. The track, renamed "Nothing But You," was released in the United Kingdom via Positiva and debuted at number 14 in the UK charts.

Marsh auditioned for the ITV talent show Popstars in late 2000. She was one of the five members of Hear'say's newest group, as well as Danny Foster, Myleene Klass, Suzanne Shaw, and Noel Sullivan. Hear'Say's first single, "Pure and Simple," was released in March 2001, a cover of a Girl Thing track. Her girl bandmates characterized her as "the funniest out of the bunch." In March 2001, the album debuted on number one on the UK Singles Chart, despite the fact that it only sold less than 550,000 copies. In June 2001, the group debuted "The Way to Your Love," their second single. The album was their second straight number one single. The group toured the United Kingdom shortly after. Marsh revealed in January 2002 that she was leaving Hear'Say. Auditions were held to find a replacement for her, but the company disbanded in October 2002.

Marsh has landed a solo record deal with Island Records after being out of the limelight for a while. "Cry" was her first single on the UK Singles Chart, and her second single, "Come on Over," made it to number ten. Marsh's debut solo album, Standing Tall, debuted in July 2003, peaking at number nine in the UK. It featured three solo singles as well as twelve other tracks. "Sentimental," her make-or-break third single, stalled at number 35, resulting in her being barred from her record label. Marsh performed "Whisper to Me" in early 2006, a song that was supposed to select a singer and a song for the UK entry in the Eurovision Song Contest. Marsh came in fourth place in the competition, which was won by Daz Sampson.

Television career

In an episode of the BBC One soap opera Doctors, Marsh made her television debut in 2005, playing Ruth Parry, a woman. She appeared on ITV's daytime program Loose Women for the eighth season in the same year. In 2006, she appeared as Kay Price in the first two episodes of Channel 4's soap opera Hollyoaks: In the City.

Marsh appeared on Coronation Street from April 2006, when she played Michelle Connor from April 2006, which she continued until 2019. She has since been rewarded with Newcomer awards at the 2007 British Soap Awards and the 2007 National Television Awards, among other things, for her appearances on the show. She became a regular character by having her son exchanged at birth, the death of her older brother Paul (Sean Gallagher), Leanne Battersby (Keith Duffy), her failed pregnancy with Steve's baby, learning that Steve has also stalked her ex-boyfriend Will (Leon Ockenden), and being stalked by her ex-boyfriend Will (Leon Ockenden). Other storylines have focused on Carla (Alison King) and Maria (Samia Ghadie), as well as her friendship with Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill) after her marriage to Steve ended.

Some readers began to get sick of her as well as her behavior in 2008, when the storyline was dominant. Both supporters and critics generally opposed Michelle's baby-swap storyline; columnist Grace Dent wrote of the plot: "It seems like something ripped from a copy of Pick Me Up magazine and read to me ardently over 22 weeks." In comparison, the 2017 stillbirth storyline as well as Marsh's performance received rave reviews and was lauded by the stillbirth charity Sands. Marsh, the narrator of Archie's real life son, was also born, said that it was important for her to get to the storyline in order to raise concerns about the subject. She also lobbied for the reform of legislation, which would see stillborn children get birth certificates. It was also "the right way to honor" her son, according to the actress. She was named Best Female Dramatic Performance at the 2017 British Soap Award. Marsh would be leaving the soap after 13 years, according to Michelle's last scenes on February 27, 2019.

Marsh, alongside Gethin Jones, began presenting the daily morning magazine show Morning Live on BBC One on October 26, 2020. The series came to an end on December 18, 2020, and the BBC announced on December 17 that it would return in 2021 for a second series. Marsh appeared in the fourth series of the BBC One drama The Syndicate as Donna in March 2021. She was announced as one of the starring cast members of BBC's revival of their school drama Waterloo Road a year later.
