Kyle Juszczyk Career

College career

Juszczyk played tight end for the Harvard Crimson football team under new head coach Tim Murphy at Harvard University. He was a member of the Crimson from 2009-2012. He was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy League pick after his sophomore season in 2012.

Juszczyk had 125 passes for 1,576 yards and 22 touchdowns in his four years at Harvard.

Professional career

Juszczyk was expected to be a third or fourth round pick coming out of Harvard. He was ranked as the best fullback out of the 94 available on NFLDraftscout.com. Juszczyk did all the necessary drills and positional workouts at Harvard's Pro Day, although he was not invited to the NFL Combine.

In the fourth round (130th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens selected Juszczyk. He was the first fullback pick of the 2013 NFL Draft. Juszczyk was the first fullback drafted from Harvard and only the tenth player in school history to be drafted. He was the second highest pick in school history, only behind Isaiah Kacyvenski, who was picked in the fourth round (119th overall) in the 2000 NFL Draft.

The Baltimore Ravens signed Juszczyk to a four-year, $2.46 million contract, with a signing bonus of $300,574.

Juszczyk, who spent his rookie year in Berlin, will be the Ravens' starting fullback. He was named Leach's backup for the regular season. In the Ravens' season-opening 49-27 loss to the Denver Broncos, he made his professional regular season debut. He appeared in all 16 regular season games, but was mostly on special teams and as a blocking fullback throughout his rookie season.

Juszczyk made the Baltimore Ravens' full throttle the following year after acquiring Vonta Leach in February. He also shifted his jersey number from #40 to #44, which he had worn at Harvard and Leach had worn the season before. In the Ravens' season-opener loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, he made his first appearance in his career. During a 23-21 loss to the Cleveland Browns on September 21, 2014, he caught three passes for a season-high 54 receiving yards and his first touchdown reception. Joe Flacco's first appearance in his career was a nine-yard touchdown pass. Juszczyk won by 21–7 in a Week 10 matchup against the Tennessee Titans. He had a season-high three passes for 26 touchdown yards. Juszczyk finished the season with 19 receptions for 182 receiving yards and a touchdown while playing in all 16 games. Since the 2014 season, he was named a Pro Bowl alternate at fullback.

After winning the job over Kiero Small in training camp, Juszczyk recovered to start fullback in 2015. He had four catches for 17 receiving yards against the Denver Broncos in the season's opener. Juszczyk caught three touchdowns on Sunday for 31 passing yards and his first touchdown of the season on an eight-yard pass from Joe Flacco as the Ravens lost 33–33 to the Cleveland Browns. He made a season-high five receptions for 47 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 10. During Baltimore's 16-13 victory over the St. Louis Rams, he caught three passes for ten yards and his first two career carries for three rushing yards. The Ravens beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 20–17 on December 27, 2015, Juszczyk caught five passes for a season-high 55 receiving yards.

Juszczyk finished the 2015 season with career-highs in receptions (42), receiving yards (321), and receiving touchdowns (4). In 16 games and 11 starts, Juszczyk had only had two rushing attempts for three yards in 16 games and 11 starts.

Juszczyk was the Baltimore Ravens' starter at fullback in 2016 and one of only 17 fullbacks to play in 2016. He had two passes for 22 receiving yards and one for two yards as the Ravens defeated the Buffalo Bills in the season's opener on September 11, 2016. Juszczyk was the Baltimore Browns' defeat to the Oakland Raiders 28-27 on October 2, 2016, who had a career-high six passes for 56 receiving yards. Juszczyk scored his first career rush touchdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 25, 2016. In addition to two runs for 15 yards and his first NFL rushing touchdown, he completed the Ravens' 27-31 loss to the Steelers with two carries for 15 yards and his first NFL rushing touchdown while receiving two passes for ten yards. With the loss, the Ravens were effectively kicked out of playoff contention. It was announced on January 20, 2017 that it had been selected as an original pick to his first Pro Bowl. Juszcyzk was rated as the top fullback for 2016 by Pro Football Focus. In 2016, he had the most snaps of any fullback, finishing with 465, more than any other fullback.

Juszczyk joined a free agency for the first time in his career in 2017 and was the best fullback on the market. Several franchises, including the Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills, and the San Francisco 49ers, all showed an interest and offer. The Philadelphia Eagles had a great chance to land the coveted free agent first, but the Buffalo Bills overtook them as the favorite as the team's search for a healthy replacement for Jerome Felton.

The San Francisco 49ers agreed to Juszczyk's four-year, $21 million deal, which includes $7 million as a minimum and a signing bonus of $5 million. It was the highest deal for a fullback in NFL history.

In his 49ers debut, Juszczyk had two receptions for 17 yards in the season's opening 23–3 loss to the Carolina Panthers. He was named to his second Pro Bowl on December 19, 2017.

Juszczyk had 33 receptions for 315 yards and a touchdown, as well as 31 rushing yards in his first season with the 49ers. According to Pro Football Focus, Juszczyk came in fourth out of all fullbacks with a overall rating of 74.8.

Juszczyk made a 56-yard field reception in the 24-16 loss in the Minnesota Vikings' season opener. On a 35-yard pass from Jimmy Garoppolo, he scored his first touchdown of the season on Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Juszczyk finished the 2018 season with 30 receptions for 324 yards and a touchdown, as well as 30 rushing yards.

Juszczyk played in 12 games and had 20 receptions for 239 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown in the 2019 season.

Juszczyk intercepted three passes for 39 receiving yards and a touchdown in the 31–20 loss in Super Bowl LIV against the Kansas City Chiefs. Juszczyk's touchdown reception in the game was the first by a Harvard alumnus in Super Bowl history, and the first by a fullback since Super Bowl XXVII.

Juszczyk scored 2 catches for ten yards against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 16, which culminated in touchdowns, leading to the 20-12 victory.

Juszczyk, a 2521-year-old quarterback, signed a five-year contract extension with the 49ers worth $27 million on March 15, 2021.

Naked NFL locker room incidents spark dramatic response from players

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 5, 2024
Cincinnati Bengals center Ted Karras has revealed players being caught naked on camera is one of the reasons why the NFL wants to close locker rooms to the media. On Friday, the NFL Players Association called for curbs on locker room interviews, saying that they were an invasion of players' privacy and urging members to seek interviews outside the locker room during the week. Reporters regularly mingle with players in the locker room on game day and on practice days, putting members of the media in close quarters with athletes courtesy of media policies that the players association called 'outdated'.
