Kristin Nelson Life

Sharon Kristin Nelson (née Harmon, 1945-August 27, 2018) was an American primitive painter, actor, and writer who was once married to actor and singer Ricky Nelson.

Early life

Kristin was the niece of American football player Tom Harmon and actress/model Elyse Knox. Kelly Harmon, a model, and actor Mark Harmon are among her younger siblings.

Mia Farrow, one of her closest school acquaintances, attended Marymount High School, an all-girls Catholic school in Bel Air.

Ricky Nelson, a teen idol who was born in 1963, gave birth to their first child six months later.

Personal life

Nelson was "just another 12-year-old fan" of his. They started dating on Christmas Day 1961, when she was 16 and Rick was 21. The couple announced their engagement a year later. They were married on April 20, 1963 in a Catholic service at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Los Angeles. Nelson was pregnant, and Rick later described the marriage as a "shotgun wedding." Rick, a non-practicing Protestant, received training in Catholicism ahead of his wedding and signed a promise not to have any of the union's children baptized in the Catholic faith.

The couple went on to have three more children, but Rick and his luxury caused him to travel for lengthy stretches, putting great strain on the marriage. The Nelsons were on the verge of breaking up by 1975. When Rick returned from a tour in 1977, he discovered Nelson had taken him out of their house and into a rented house. She discovered him with two Los Angeles Rams cheerleaders less than a month later. Rick later said she had set him up to use the incident against him in court.

Nelson filed for divorce and asked for alimony, the custody of their four children, and a piece of community property in October 1977, but the couple temporarily reconciled.

The couple purchased Errol Flynn's 1941 Mulholland Drive home for $750,000 in April 1980. Nelson asked Rick to abandon music, spend more time at home, and concentrate on acting, but Rick kept touring relentlessly. Nelson's career issue led to a lot of anxiety at home.

Nelson applied for divorce in October 1980. Attempts to reach a preliminary settlement agreement were unsuccessful. Nelson was temporarily given the children's custody as well as $3,600 in monthly spousal assistance in February 1981. Rick was expected to pay family expenses, such as property taxes, medical bills, and school tuition.

Nelson claimed that Rick was hiding assets, but in fact, he was almost broke. Both suspect the other of heroin and alcohol use, as well as being a bad parent. The couple were divorced in December 1982 after two years of crimony. Rick's divorce was financially devastating, with lawyers and accountants earning more than $100,000.

Nelson, Ozzie and Harriet: The Adventures of America's Favorite Families, 1998, Nelson said of her marriage to Rick: "I spent my whole life fighting the fairy tale." Trying to be it first and then trying to tell the truth."

Kristin and Rick Nelson had four children. Tracy, their first child, was born six months after their wedding on October 25, 1963 at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California. She weighed four pounds, one ounce, and was only slightly premature. Tracy Ball, a preschooler, appeared in Yours, Mine, and Ours with Lucille Ball. She attended the exclusive Westlake School for Girls in her teens. She stayed with her father at the Mulholland Drive home during her parents' marital difficulties. Tracy went on to become both a professional dancer and a well-known film and television actress.

Gunnar Eric Nelson and Matthew Gray Nelson were born on September 20, 1967. As they entered 18, three months before his tragic death, they joined their father as soon as they turned 18. They formed Nelson, a band that is still active, just short of forming it.

Sam Hilliard Nelson, Nelson's fourth child, was born on August 29, 1974. He was placed in the custody of his maternal grandparents at six years old and became the subject of a custody controversy between Nelson and her brother Mark Harmon in 1987. Sam earned a degree in psychology and a minor in film from Boston College and has been working in the music industry for the past eight years.

Rick Nelson's four children inherited what was left of his estate following his death in a plane crash in 1985.

Nelson's youngest son Sam was taken into custody by her brother Mark Harmon and his partner Pam Dawber in 1987, two years after Rick's death, when she and his sister Pam Dawber applied for custody of Kristin's youngest boy Sam, arguing that Kristin was incapable of good parenting. Sam's psychiatrist testified that the 13-year-old boy mistook his mother as a dragon, vying for her mood swings and preventing him from visiting his siblings. Sam was under the custody of his aunt Kelly during his parents' divorce battle between 1980 and 1982, before moving in with his grandparents for 18 months and eventually living with Harmon and his family.

Harmon dropped the custody lawsuit after his sister filed charges of cocaine use by Dawber. Nelson held detention, but Harmon was granted visitation rights. Nelson, her brother Mark, and her son Sam have all agreed to go back to family therapy.

Nelson married television producer and director Mark Tinker in 1988; the couple divorced in 2000. Nelson then migrated to Santa Fe, New Mexico, after the divorce.

Kristin Nelson Career

Career

Following her marriage to Rick in 1963, she joined him and his family on their television show The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet as a regular cast member, first appearing in the episode "Rick's Wedding Ring."

According to one critic, she co-starred with Rick in the romantic comedy Love and Kisses in 1965, in which they chronicle the struggles of a young couple of school age who get married—an "inspired casting."

She appeared on other television series, including The Resurrection of Broncho Billy, which received an Academy Award for best live-action short film. Jean Reed, Jim Reed's wife Jean, appeared on Adam-12, guest-starred on other films, and appeared in a few theatrical films, including The Resurrection of Broncho Billy. Following Liar's Moon, she resigned from acting in 1982.

Kristin had been painting since the age of 17, and she had held her first one-woman art show in 1967. Her work, which has been dubbed "widely acclaimed," is in the primitive genre and has been likened to Grandma Moses'. In the 1970s, her oil paintings sold for up to $5,000.

Kristin's brilliantly colored primitives flocked in favour with Jacqueline Kennedy, Mia Farrow, Tyne Daly, Dwight Yoakam, and other celebrities. When Kennedy purchased her painting When the Kennedys Were in the White House, her art career was revived.

Her paintings are designed without regard and are brightly colored with many figures included. "Any symbolism is simple and straightforward," Judy Blundell said. She isn't worried about being clever or elusive; rather, she's using her skills as a form of true visual documentation." When the Kennedys Were in the White House (1964) and The Day He Lived (1990), a tribute to her father that depicts a country church and rain clouds, are among the pages. Out of My Mind, a coffee-table-sized autobiography, was published in 1999. The paintings depict her life story and are supplemented by diary entries and poems.

She first met producer Mark Tinker, who asked her what she wanted to do with her life in 1988. "I want to paint," she told him.
