Kristopher Marshall (born 11 April 1973) is an English actor who has appeared in films, television, and on stage for more than 20 years.
In the first series of Citizen Khan (2012), he appeared in My Family, Colin Frissell in the 2003 film Love Actually, Gratiano in The Merchant of Venice, and Dave in My Family.
In Death in Paradise, he appeared as DI Humphrey Goodman, assuming the role in April 2013 for the show's third season and then ending it in February 2017 in the sixth series.
Early life
Kristopher Marshall was born in Bath, Somerset, on April 11, 1973. His father, a Royal Air Force navigator, served on the Queen's Flight and then became a squadron chief. Marshall and his family travelled from Hong Kong to Canada later that year. He was educated at Wells Cathedral School as a boarding student upon his return to England. He enrolled at the Redroofs Theatre School in Maidenhead, Berkshire, after failing his first year of sixth form.
Personal life
In 2012, Marshall married Hannah Dodkin. Since 2014, the family has lived in Bath with their son, Thomas, and daughter, Elsie. They had lived in Wells' Long Barton neighborhood.
In 2008, a Marshall was struck by a car in Bristol. The crash occurred in the early hours of April 28 as he spent a night out with friends in Bristol city centre. He was admitted to Bristol Royal Infirmary, where a scan revealed head injury. He made a complete recovery and resumed his appearances in the Play Fat Pig three weeks later than expected. Marshall is adamantly in favour of Aston Villa F.C. He said that a card from the club aided him in his recovery.
After police stopped his car in the Tesco car park in Wells, in October 2011, Marshall was charged with failing to administer a breath test. Marshall had failed a breath test at the hospital and then refused to provide a second sample at the police station. He pleaded guilty and was barred from driving for six months.
Career
Marshall appeared on the bill early in his career, but it was in 2000 that his big breakthrough role came as Nick Harper in the BBC sitcom My Family. Colin Frissell, an Englishman who goes to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to find love, appeared in Love Actually in 2003. Marshall appeared in the police drama series Murder City as DS Luke Stone in 2004. Marshall appeared on television and in print for BT Retail advertisements from 2005 to 2011, where he played the role Adam; with Esther Hall portraying his character's eventual wife Jane. In 2012, he appeared on Citizen Khan's BBC comedy series Citizen Khan but was forced to leave after season 1.
Marshall appeared in two episodes of season five in 2004 and his last appearance in a short Comic Relief special in 2005, after leaving his full-time work in My Family in 2003. He began working on Heist's film, which premiered on BBC Four in April 2008. Marshall appeared at Trafalgar Studios in the first UK performance of Neil LaBute's play Fat Pig in the summer of 2008. Marshall is expected to leave the series in January 2017 after being disappointed with the strains it placed on his families and that it would be replaced by Ardal O'Hanlon, who plays DI Jack Mooney.
