College career

Dunn strained his labrum in June 2012 and underwent shoulder surgery right away. In late December, he made his freshman debut. He appeared in 25 games this season and averaged 5.7 points per game.

Dunn will have shoulder surgery and miss the remainder of his sophomore season after playing four games on December 11, 2013.

Dunn returned from injury to receive the Big East Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards in the 2014–2015 season. He averaged 15.6 points per game and led the Big East in assists per game and steals per game. Dunn earned several preseason awards, including preseason POY, as a result of returning for the 2015–16 season with the intention of graduating.

Dunn was named Big East Player of the Week on Monday after scoring 26 points in a victory over St. John's and a 26 point outing in a victory over ninth-ranked Butler. He was one of ten finalists for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award on February 1, 2016. On February 11, he was added to the Naismith Trophy's 35-man midseason watchlist.

Dunn revealed that he did not complete his redshirt junior season and into the 2016 NBA draft. Dunn earned his college degree following the season's departure. Dunn was ranked as the top point guard on ESPN and is likely to be a top-ten pick in the draft.

Professional career

The Minnesota Timberwolves selected Dunn as their fifth overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft on June 23, 2016. He signed his rookie scale with the Timberwolves on July 7 and joined the team for the 2016 NBA Summer League. In his first season in the Summer League, Dunn scored a team-high 27 points. After being diagnosed with a concussion, he only played in two Summer League games before being forced to miss the remainder of the tournament. In a 102-98 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, he made his regular season debut on October 26 in the Timberwolves' season opener, scoring eight points off the bench. He had ten points, six assists, and five steals in his first career appearance, helping the Timberwolves beat the Grizzlies 116-80 on November 1, 116-80. Since suffering a left index finger injury during a preseason game on October 6, his Bulls debut was postponed until his fifth game of the season. Dunn's debut on October 28, after losing by 101–69 to the Oklahoma City Thunder, saw eight points and five fouls, while also causing his finger to bleed. Dunn's first team members received four first team votes and twenty-three second team votes.

Dunn signed with the Atlanta Hawks on November 28, 2020. He appeared in four games for the Hawks during the 2020–21 season, but he missed 63 games due to leg injury, which required surgery.

Jabari Smith Jr., a player for the Houston and Utah, scuffles with Jazz guard Kris Dunn just days after teammate Dillon Brooks' fight with DeMar DeRozan... But before ejections, Houston and Utah players are unable to find any punches

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 24, 2024
Another game, another victory, and another match for the Houston Rockets. This time, it was power forward Jabari Smith Jr. who threw down for Ime Udoka's team by facing Utah Jazz guard Kris Dunn, resulting in an ejection for both players. As the ball was being brought up the court five seconds into the second quarter, the two threw punches at each other. Before the brawl started to escalate, players and officials clashed, no one seemed to land a significant blow. The two were exchanged a few words, a few pushes, and the next thing you'll know we're ejected,' Dunn said.
