KL Rahul Life

Kannur Lokesh Rahul (born 18 April 1992), also known as KL Rahul, is an Indian cricketer.

He competes for India, Karnataka in the domestic circuit, and Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League as a top-order batsman and occasional wicketkeeper. Rahul made his international debut in 2014 and scored his first Test century in his second Test match.

He became the first Indian to score a century on One Day International's debut, and he was the third Indian to score a century in all three formats of international cricket.

Early life

KL Rahul was born in Bangalore on 18 April 1992 to KN Lokesh and Rajeshwari. Lokesh, a father who was born in Kananur, Magadi taluk, is a professor and former director of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in Mangalore. Rajeshwari, his mother, is a professor at Mangalore University. Lokesh, a fan of Sunil Gavaskar, wanted to name his son after Gavaskar's, but she mistook it for Rahul, not Abdul Gavaskar.

Rahul grew up in Mangalore, finishing his high school at NITK English Medium School and pre-university at St. Aloysius College. He started playing cricket for both Bangalore United Cricket Club and his club in Mangalore at the age of 10. At age 18, he moved to Bangalore to study at Jain University and concentrate on his cricket career.

Domestic career

Rahul made his first-class cricket debut for Karnataka in the 2010–11 season. He represented his country at the 2010 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, scoring a total of 143 runs in the tournament. In 2013, he made his first appearance in the Indian Premier League for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He scored 1,033 first-class runs in the 2013–14 domestic season, his second highest scorer of the season.

Rahul scored 185 off 233 balls in the first innings and 130 off 152 in the second innings while playing for South Zone in the final of the 2014–15 Duleep Trophy against Central Zone. For the Australian tour, he was named player of the match and selection to the Indian Test squad.

Rahul became Karnataka's first triple-centurion after returning home after the Test series, scoring 337 against Uttar Pradesh. In the 2014–15 Ranji Trophy final against Tamil Nadu, he scored 188 points and finished the season with an average of 93.11 in the nine matches he played.

International career

Rahul made his Test debut in the Melbourne Cricket Ground's 2014 Boxing Day Test. Rohit Sharma was recalled and MS Dhoni gave him his Test cap. In the first innings, he batted at number six and made three runs; in the second innings, he played at number 3 and made only 1 run, but he retained his spot for the next Test at Sydney, where he opened the innings with Murali Vijay and made 110 runs, his first international century.

He was in the 15-man squad for the Indian tour of Bangladesh in June 2015 but had to cancel due to Dengue fever. Murali Vijay was back on the side for the first Test of the Sri Lankan tour after being ruled out of action due to injury, scoring his second Test century and receiving the Man of the Match award. After Wriddhiman Saha was wounded during the match, he kept the wickets.

Rahul was selected in the squad to tour Zimbabwe in 2016 and made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club, scoring 115 points on his debut. On ODI debut, he became the first Indian cricketer to score a century on ODI debut. He is the first player in T20I history to score a century (110*) while batting at number 4 or lower. Rahul smashed his second T20 International ton against England on July 3, 2018. He is also the first Indian batsman to be disqualified from T20I cricket.

Hardik Pandya and K. L. Rahul were banned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on January 11, 2019 after making inflammatory remarks about the Indian talk show Koffee with Karan earlier this month. They were both sent home ahead of the ODI series against Australia and the fixtures of India's tour to New Zealand. Rahul will re-join the team for India A matches on January 24, 2019, after lifting the ban on Pandya and Rahul.

In April 2019, he was selected in India's squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. In the first two games, he was ranked fourth in the first two games, but Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out of the rest of the tournament due to injury. Rahul scored 57 runs in the first match as the world cup opener against Pakistan against Pakistan. Rohit Sharma led the way with a 136-run opening stand. KL scored 112 runs in his last league match against Sri Lanka, his first century for India in the World Cup.

Overall, KL had 361 runs with 2 fifties and 1 hundred in the tournament, placing third in India's third highest run scorer in the tournament after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Rahul was dropped from the Test squad for the Home tests against South Africa due to a lack of fitness in the Test style. Nonetheless, he climbed through the ranks in the restricted over formats.

Rahul scored his 1,000th run in T20I cricket in December 2019, the first T20I match against the West Indies. In the first T20I against the West Indies, he scored 62 (40). In the third T20I for which he was named Man of the match, he scored 91 (56) for his third T20I in which he was deemed the Man of the match. In the 2nd ODI against the West Indies, he scored his 3rd ODI century. KL scored 45 in the first match and 54 in the second T20I series against Sri Lanka. He maintained his good form going into the weekend.

In January 2020, Rahul made 805 batting at number five in the second ODI against Australia, and was named Man of the match.

Rahul was named man of the series in India's tour of New Zealand in 2019-2021 for scoring 224 runs at an average of 56 runs. Rohit Sharma sustained a hamstring injury in the 1st innings, making him the stand-in captain of the 5th T20I. In the third ODI series against New Zealand, he scored 88* (64) in the first ODI and scored his fourth ton in ODIs, 112 (113).

Rahul was named as India's vice captain for the ODI and T20I series against Australia in October 2020. Rahul's T20I and T20I series against Australia was moderately ODI and T20I. In the second T20I, he made 77 against Australia, his second ODI, 51, and 51. India lost the ODI series 2–1, but made the T20I series by the same margin.

Rahul was included in the Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but the first two Tests were not selected in the playing XI. He hurt himself during workouts and was barred from the remainder of the tour.

As a result, he also skipped the home Test series against England in February 2021. For the T20I and ODI series against England, he returned to the national team. In the T20I series, there was a halt in his form. He recovered to form in the ODI series, scoring a match-winning 62* and being involved in a 100-run collaboration with debutant Krunal Pandya, who scored a fifty runs. He maintained his form by scoring 108 runs in the second ODI and was instrumental in another 100-run collaboration with Rishabh Pant.

Rahul was selected in India's test squad for their tour of England in 2021. In the first test at Nottingham, Rahul scored 84 and 26 as Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal were injured. In the second test, he went on to score a ton i.e., 129 (250) at Lords and was named man of the match. Rahul was the second highest run scorer for India in eight innings of four matches played, with Rohit Sharma being the highest run scorer for the team.

Rahul was selected in India's squad for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup in September 2021. He was India's top run scorer (11th overall) in the entire tournament, scoring 194 runs, which included three straight fifties. Against Scotland, he scored the tournament's joint fastest fifty in just 18 balls.

KL was appointed vice-captain of India's T20i team in T20i after Virat Kohli resigned as the Indian T20i captain, after Virat Kohli resigned as the Indian T20i captain as the T20i captain. Due to the change of captaincy in the Indian team's white ball system, KL was promoted vice captaincy as well.

After India's regular vice-captain Rohit Sharma was barred from the series, Rahul was named as India's test vice-captain for the away series against South Africa in December 2021. Rahul captained India for the first time in test cricket in January 2022 and became India's 34th Test captain for the second time in the second test against South Africa in January 2022. On his debut as captaincy, he had a half-century. Despite his best efforts, Rahul couldn't help the team win the second Test by seven wickets, and India lost the second Test by seven wickets. In the first ODI against South Africa, he made his ODI Captaincy debut and became India's 26th ODI captain, but India lost the series 3–0 to South Africa.

Rahul scored 49 (48) and completed 6000 runs in International cricket in February 2022, his second ODI of India against the West Indies. Rahul sustained an upper left hamstring strain in the same ODI and was ruled out of the next ODI as well as the forthcoming T20Is series against the West Indies. Rahul was appointed captain of the South African tour of India in June, but was later barred from the series due to a groin injury. Rahul returned to the team and was named captain of the India Tour of Zimbabwe in August after a fruitful sports hernia surgery.

At the last match played by Team India in the 2022 Asia Cup against Afghanistan, Rahul was the stand-in captain for the team.
