She is the third straight Miss America winner from New York and has won the title of Miss New York since being Miss City of New York on May 24, 2014.
Early life and education
Kazantsev was born in San Francisco, California, to Russian immigrants who left Moscow in 1990 for the United States in 1990, making her the first-generation American. George's father, George, is a general surgeon and Julia (née Afrikian) is a real estate broker. Boris, her eight-year-old brother, lives with her. Kazantsev is trilingual, with fluent in English, Russian, and Spanish.
She graduated from Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek, California, and served as the student body president in 2009. She received a triple major in political science, international studies, and geography from Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. During her time at Hofstra, she belonged to Alpha Phi Sorority, but the university eventually dropped her from the sorority due to fears about hazing. She lived in Barcelona, Spain, during her junior year at Hofstra University. After graduating from Hofstra, Kazantsev went to several law schools and was accepted to Notre Dame Law School and Fordham Law School. After being named Miss America 2015, she expressed her desire to specialize in international law after receiving her J.D. Degree.
Kazantsev completed the Stanford Ignite entrepreneurial program, which is a "suite of certificate programs that teaches innovators to formulate, produce, and commercialize their ideas" in the summer of 2017.
Personal life
Kazantsev revealed on September 4, 2018, her long-time partner and Marine Andrew Dixon. The couple married in Alexander Valley, California, on September 21, 2019.
Career
She has worked at a Washington, D.C., summer intern as a volunteer for the United States. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's 2012 re-election bid, waited tables, interned at a local Planned Parenthood affiliate, launched a food blog, and served as a hostess.
Babitsev is the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals' Director of Digital Channels and Community Engagement.
Kazantsev launched "What We Do" in November 2017, in which she addresses "the difficult topics, the challenges we've faced, the fun times, the funny times, and the not so good times."
