Life and career
Dahyun was born in Seongnam, Gyeonggi, on May 28, 1998. She grew up with her parents and has an older brother. She began singing with her Christian church choir at a young age. With a dance at church called the "eagle dance," Dahyun first attracted attention in sixth grade in elementary school, which was broadcast on YouTube. After a talent scout saw her appearance at a dance festival, Dahyun was hired to work as a trainee for JYP Entertainment, she went on to work with them for more than three years.
Dahyun appeared in Sixteen, a reality television competition, to choose the participants of JYP Entertainment's latest girl group in 2015. Dahyun, one of Twice's nine most popular participants, was later selected to perform as a singer and rapper. She debuted with Twice with the introduction of their extended play (EP), The Story Begins (EP), and the lead single "Like Ooh-Ahh" in October.
Dahyun graduated from Hanlim Multi Art School in 2017. She was voted the seventeenth most popular idol in South Korea this year by Gallup Korea's annual music survey.
