Kiely Williams Career

Career

Williams, Adrienne Bailon, and Naturi Naughton formed the girl group 3LW in 1999. Williams' mother, who also managed the company, pulled the 3LW together at the initial stages. In 1999, 3LW was signed to Epic Records and began working on their debut album. In the fall of 2000, their first album, "No More (Baby I'ma Do Right), was released. In early 2001, "No More" was a chart success, and "Playas Gon' Play" followed "No More."

On December 5, 2000, the group's self-titled debut album, 3LW, was released. The album was later confirmed platinum by the RIAA, with sales of 1.3 million copies in the United States. The organization began in the summer of 2001 with a MTV Total Request Live tour, as well as Destiny's Child, Dream, Nelly, Eve, and Jessica Simpson. In 2001, 3LW released "What More Can I Give" a song starring Michael Jackson, Usher, Beyoncé, Luther Vandross, Celine Dion, and Mariah Carey in response to the 9/11 attacks. On the Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius soundtrack, they collaborated with Lil' Romeo and Nick Cannon on "Parents Just Don't Know." Williams appeared on "Blue Mascara" in 2001 and she played her character Lia, where the main titled character (Christina Vidal) is overjoyed to join the most popular all-female singing group at school until they advise her to abandon her best friend named Renee (Khalia Adams). In an episode of "Speaking of Coleman," Williams, who was terrified of being out of a debate match by Jermaine Williams, learned a lesson in stage fright by leaping backstage during a half-time performance.

3LW spent the first half of 2002 in the studio, releasing an album tentatively titled Same Game, Different Rules. The album and its intended lead single "Uh Oh" were presented to the label, who claimed that it did not have enough urban radio exposure. Same Game, Different Rules' songs were leaked on the internet in MP3 form, and Epic considered removing the girls. After their song "Never Let Go" broke the radio, a fan support campaign for 3LW began, the band was retained, despite the album's loss. The group, who was still recording a new set of songs, appeared on P. Diddy-produced single "I Do (Wanna Get Close To You)" in the summer of 2002, starring Loon. Live on Sunset, the company's summer concert special, appeared on Nickelodeon. As member Naughton left the company for good after heated discussions, the organization was supposed to announce A Girl Can Mack, the group's new LP. The album's debut date was postponed a month, but debuts at No. 1 were also disappointing. In the first week, 15 copies of the Billboard 200 were sold out of a total of 53,000 copies. Naughton said she had a number of issues and concerns with Bailon, Williams' and their leadership.

When using the word "3LW," Williams and Bailon continued as a pair, prompting the press to jokingly refer to them as "2LW." Kiely & Adrienne, according to a front page of Sister 2 Sister magazine in October 2002, they received death threats and that they should have increased protection. Naturi's demise had a major effect on the group's success and album sales. Following the success of "Neva Get Enuf," the album's second single, auditions were held around the country for a new third member. Jessica Benson was drafted and joined 3LW in early 2003. The company may have had to dissolve due to "bankruptcy" without Jessica. Jessica's first appearance on Live with Regis & Kelly was followed by a performance on Soul Train. 3LW departed from Epic in fall 2003, signing with Jermaine Dupri's So So Def label in Jermaine Dupri's fall 2003. The company then began working on their fourth studio album.

Both Bailon and Williams jumped on to act in the Disney Channel film The Cheetah Girls while on tour, and they're still on the album. They appeared as two of four members of a female girl group named after the film, with Raven-Symoné and Sabrina Bryan portraying the final two members. In August 2003, the film was released, with a ratings hit. At No. 3, the Cheetah Girls soundtrack debuted at No. 1 on the charts. On the Billboard 200, 33 people were selected as Platinum by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIAA). Adrienne, Kiely, and Sabrina were among the Adrienne, Kiely, and Sabrina's children who joined Walt Disney Records shortly. Raven was given a job in the company but decided against it, deciding on her solo career and her television show That's So Raven. The trio began recording their first studio album, which later revealed to be a Christmas collection. The album, titled Cheetah-licious Christmas, was released in 2005, and Walt Disney followed them shortly after. Hollywood Records signed to Disney in 2006.

The Cheetah Girls returned to film the sequel The Cheetah Girls 2 later that year. Raven-Symoné did return to film the sequel despite being on leave from the main cast members. The movie premiered on August 25, 2006, grossing 8.1 million viewers, the highest-rated Disney Channel original film and defeating the premiere of the first of the High School Musical series. On August 15, 2006, the movie's soundtrack debuted at No. 1, which was no. 1. At the end of the year, five on the charts were rated platinum and were rated platinum. In January 2006, the Cheetah Girls began working on their second studio album. Bailon said, "We'll be making a real album, not a soundtrack." TCG's debut album, "Fuego," debuted on Hot Dance Club Play's chart and was seen on Disney Channel and MTV Tr3s in heavy rotation.

Despite being heavily involved with the Cheetah Girls, Kiely, and Adrienne, three members of 3LW, their progress on their fourth album had to be halted due to their involvement with the Cheetah Girls. Phoenix Rising was the group's fourth studio album, but Point of No Return was renamed. "Feelin' You," the lead-off single, was first introduced on radio stations on July 12, 2006. The album was supposed to be released later this year, but due to Adrienne and Kiely's involvement with Disney's Cheetah Girls franchise, it was postponed until 2007. Image conflicts between both groups contributed to the album delays. As a result, the album was never released. Bailon wrote in Girls Life magazine in early 2007 that 3LW had been suspended due to the Cheetah Girls project. However, Bailon's claims were put to rest in an interview with Jonathon Jackson in 2008, when Bailon announced that 3LW had been officially disbanded after being barred from the So So Def roster. Bailon and Williams decided to then continue the Cheetah Girls franchise full time.

One World was in production on the third film in the Cheetah Girls franchise, The Cheetah Girls. According to Disney, the Cheetah Girls will be sent to India to star in a Bollywood film. It was shot on location in a foreign country, similar to The Cheetah Girls 2. Bailon said in an interview that the film will be shot in India for three months and that she had been doing study for the film. Raven-Symoné later announced that she did not return for this film. The movie premiered to over 6.2 million viewers and hit 7 million viewers in the final half of its run. This week, the series' lowest-rated premiere struggled to reach the first two ratings, which was also the series' lowest-rated premiere. Its premiere night on Disney Channel UK earned 412,000, making it No. 104. On Thursday, the first week of the week, and the No. 1 in the United Kingdom received 182,000, as well as No. 1. This week, there were 1 on the show this week, totaling 594,000. "Circle Game" was Williams' solo song on the film's soundtrack album.

In an interview with In Touch Weekly in November 2008, Williams revealed that the group had officially disbanded to pursue solo careers in both acting and singing. The statement was later revealed by Bailon and Bryan. The group is officially disbanded as of 2012, though all three members have expressed their disinterest in working with one another again.

Williams began secretly working on a solo singing project independent of her Cheetah Girls' work in the summer of 2008. She filmed the music video for her song "Make Me a Drink" in New York City in November 2008, following the breakup of the Cheetah Girls.

A sneak peek of what was supposed to be Williams' debut solo single "Make Me A Drink," which was written by Young Money Entertainment recording artist Shanell), appeared on YouTube in August 2009 but was never officially announced, and leaked to the world in late 2018.

She appeared in Elle: A Modern Cinderella Story, a film in which she appeared. Kiely began working on Stomp the Yard: Homecoming in late 2009. Kandi Kane, the actress of Elle, required Kiely to record several songs for the film and the accompanying soundtrack, as well as extensive choreography. Stomp the Yard: In 2010, both Homecoming and Elle were announced.

Williams' official website announced the instrumentals of her first single, titled "Spectacular," written by Williams and produced by Mike City on October 28, 2009. The single was exclusive to club DJs for the first week in November. The single was released to the public on January 15, 2010, with the accompanying music video being posted on YouTube on April 5, 2010, with mostly critical feedback. Williams opted to respond to her website's scathing comments, as well as the Joy Behar Show on HLN.

"Dinner With Friends," "March Moms," and "Bad Sex With Good People" co-starred Kiely Williams and Sabrina Bryan on the web series "Dinner With Friends." Following the conclusion of Bad Sex with Good People, Williams moved behind the scenes to work as a creative producer and in new artist creation.

In 2021, she appeared in BET Presents: The Encore, which chronicled the birth of R&B supergroup BluPrint alongside Shamari Devoe of Blaque, Fallon, and Felisha King of Cherish. Their eponymous debut EP was released on August 11, 2021.
