Kevin Porter Jr. Life

Bryan Kevin Porter Jr. (born May 4, 2000) is an American professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

He played college basketball for the USC Trojans.

He played high school ball at Ranier Beach and led the Vikings to the state playoffs in each of his four years.

Early life

Porter was born in Seattle, Washington, to Ayanna and Bryan Kevin Porter Sr. His father played football, basketball, and baseball at Rainier Beach High School in Seattle in the 1990s. In July 2004, when Porter was four years old, his father was shot five times and killed while trying to help someone being attacked. As a result, he was raised by his mother, who became his role model.

Personal life

On November 15, 2020, Porter Jr. was charged by Mahoning County police following a single car accident for improper handling of a firearm in a vehicle. In a statement the Cleveland Cavaliers stated, "We are aware of the situation involving Kevin Porter Jr. and are in the process of gathering information. We have spoken with Kevin and will continue to address this privately with him as the related process evolves."

A grand jury in Mahoning County declined to indict Porter on the felony gun charge. Misdemeanor charges of driving without a license were also dropped.

In January 2022, Washington Wizards announcer Glenn Consor apologized to Porter Jr., after Consor commented that Porter Jr., "like his dad, pulled the trigger right at the right time." Consor said this after Porter Jr. made a key shot in a Wizards-Rockets game, under the mistaken belief that Porter Jr. was the son of Kevin Porter, a former Washington point guard who retired in 1983. The father of Kevin Porter Jr., Bryan Kevin Porter Sr., pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter, served a prison sentence, and later died in a shooting when Porter Jr. was four years old. Porter Jr. is not related to Kevin Porter.

Kevin Porter Jr. Career

High school career

Porter pleaded with his son to attend Rainier Beach High School rather than O'Dea High School in Seattle because his father had played sports and wanted to keep the tradition alive. Rainier Beach finished with a 22–7 record in his senior campaign, with 27 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists. Porter lost a Class 3A state championship game to Garfield High School on March 3, 2018. He was voted Washington Mr. Basketball by the state coaches association at the end of the season.

Porter was ranked as a five-star recruit by recruiting companies 247Sports and Rivals, as well as a four-star recruit by ESPN. He was the top-ranked player from Washington in the 2018 class and received offers from several NCAA Division I programs, including UCLA, Oregon, and Washington, before committing to USC. Porter was the first American citizen to be rated a five-star recruit by Rivals in 2008.

College career

Porter made his USC debut on November 6, 2018, scoring 15 points off the bench on 6-of-7 shooting in an 83-62 victory over Robert Morris. He had a quadriceps contusion against Missouri State on November 20, the 20th century. On December 1 versus Nevada, he returned but was forced to leave after four minutes because of his injury. He missed nine games due to a quad contusion and recovered on January 10, 2019, scoring five points in 25 minutes. However, three days later, he was barred from the USC indefinitely for "personal conduct problems." Despite this, Porter said he would complete the season with the team and then play in the final three games of the season. In 22 minutes of a game, he averaged 9.8 points, four rebounds, and 1.4 assists, defeating 21 of USC's 33 games.

Porter revealed that he did not want to continue collegiate service and opt for the 2019 NBA draft at the end of his freshman season.

Professional career

Porter was drafted 30th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2019 NBA draft but later traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers via the Detroit Pistons. Porter was signed by the Cleveland Cavaliers on July 3, 2019. Porter made his NBA debut on October 23, playing in an 85-94 loss to the Orlando Magic and ending with a single rebound, two assists, and a steal. Porter was banned from playing for one game without compensation for improperly making contact with a game official on November 4. In a 123-105 loss to the New York Knicks on November 19, he would make his first NBA appearance for the Cavaliers against the New York Knicks in a 123-105 loss.

Porter was inactive for the 2020–21 season due to his off-season weapons charge, which was later dropped. Following an outburst over a locker swap following the Cavaliers' purchase of Taurus Prince from the Brooklyn Nets, the Cavaliers revealed on January 18, 2021, that Porter would be traded or released. He was then released by the Rockets three days later, but he didn't play a single game with the Cavaliers in the 2020-21 season.

Porter was traded to the Houston Rockets in 2021 for a future top-55 protected second round pick. In their season opener, he was later assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets' G League affiliate, making his debut for the Vipers on February 10, 2021. He had his first triple-double of the G League season on February 25, scoring 27 points, collecting 11 rebounds, and throwing out 14 assists. In a victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on April 29, he scored 50 points and 11 assists, becoming the youngest player in NBA history to have 50+ points and 10+ assists in a game.

During a 111–124 loss to the Denver Nuggets, Porter, and teammate Christian Wood got into a verbal altercation with Rockets assistant coach John Lucas at halftime on January 1, 2022. Porter then threw an object into the locker room and left the Toyota Center, the Rockets' arena, where the Rockets were playing before the game ended. Both Porter and Wood had been suspended for one game each for their behavior, according to Rockets head coach Stephen Silas on January 3. In a 121-118 loss to Sacramento on March 31, 2022, he scored his first triple double with 30 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists.

Porter decided on a four-year, $82.5 million deal extension with the Rockets on October 17, 2022.

Kevin Jr. is brought into custody after allegedly punching Dad Kevin Hunter!

perezhilton.com, May 22, 2019
The drama involving Wendy Williams and Kevin Hunter has sparked some intense fights within the family, the latest of which turned out to be physical. Kevin Jr., the estranged couple's son, was arrested after the 19-year-old father engaged in a fist fight with his father in a parking garage near their New Jersey home this week. According to sources close to the case, the father and son were arguing over the divorce when the teen called Hunter out for suspected mistreatment of the television actress. Hunter is now entangled in a headlock, which Junior allegedly broke free from before punching the former Wendy Williams Show executive in the chest. Wendy's 'Rediscovery' A 'Love Of Men' At New York's 'Bachelorette Pad' Although neither of the cops were on alert, an onlooker was apparently desperate to report the incident. The juvenile was arrested shortly after and was released from jail a short time later. The matter is now under scrutiny, according to Essex County officials. Needless to say, there has been no shortage of drama since Wendy and Kevin's split up. The former executive producer was fired from his position on Wendy's daytime talk show and no longer serves as her boss, as we learned. Kevin had apparently ordered a cushy, multi-million dollar severance package for quietly walking away from his career, in contrast to the large amount he requested for in terms of spousal AND children's care. Wendy and Kevin have been married since 1997. / (c) WENN Overall, Kevin has been struggling since the 54-year-old host pulled the plug on their 22-year marriage amid a torrent of fidelity allegations; especially, that Hunter's alleged mistress, Sharina Hudson, gave birth to a baby this year. However, there is one area of Hunter's life that needs to be continued without Wendy's help: his "mission" to assist those struggling with heroin use and heroin abuse. The troubled father revealed on Tuesday that he plans to start a new one of his own after Wendy announced the decision to abandon her non-profit The Hunter Foundation, which was founded in an effort to help those with substance abuse problems.
