Kenny Dykstra Career

Professional wrestling career

At the age of fifteen, Doane made his professional wrestling debut in 2001. Kenn Phoenix, nicknamed "broadway" in the New England area, began his professional wrestling career in the New England area. He was later trained by professional wrestler and mentor Killer Kowalski in Malden, Massachusetts. After being contacted by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), he was invited to appear in their developmental territory, the Ohio Valley Wrestling Association (OVW). On the May 12, 2003 episode of WWE Raw as Ken Phoenix, Doane made his first national television appearance in WWE as Ken Phoenix. Mack defeated Caucasian wrestlers in less than five minutes with his brother, Mike Phoenix. Mack defeated the two guys in 1:31, causing them both to surrender to his latest Blackout finishing hold. On Sunday Night Heat, he made another appearance, losing to Lance Storm on an episode of Sunday Night Heat before being signed to a developmental contract and to OVW full-time on June 4, 2004. Doane played his first match against Kenzo Suzuki, whom Doane defeated on June 3, 2005. He took the Television Championship from Deuce Shade three weeks later, on June 25, 2005. Doane had good title defenses, but on November 9, 2005, he lost the coveted title to CM Punk.

After losing the Television Championship, Doane became a member of the Spirit Squad, a group that uses male cheerleaders' in-ring personas. The nickname "Kenny" refers to him. The group aided Jonathan Coachman win a Royal Rumble qualifying match against Jerry "The King" Lawler on January 23, 2006, by delivering cheers for Coachman and distracting Lawler. They then became involved of Vince McMahon's escalating feud with Shawn Michaels. Michaels were tagged several times by the villainous McMahon, who also placed them in multiple handicap matches.

Kenny and Mikey's team also competed in the tag team division, and the team also won the World Tag Team Championship on April 3, with outside help from the other three Squad members. All five members of the team were proclaimed champions after winning the championship, allowing any combination of them to defend the championship. Kenny was also the second youngest wrestler to win a title in WWE at the age of 20 years and 18 days, after Tyler Bate in 2017.

McMahon called off another handicap match, this time against Michaels. The match never started, but instead, the Spirit Squad brutally beat Michaels, tore apart his ring attire and, as part of the storyline, shattered his knee with a chair. McMahon called Triple H to the ring to murder Michaels with a sledgehammer, but Kenny snatched the sledgehammer away from him, causing him to leave the group, causing him to be a villain. Triple H and Michaels revived their old team, D-Generation X (DX), and began a feud with the Spirit Squad. Various sophomoric pranks on the team and the McMahons (Vince and his son Shane), as well as losing the Spirit Squad in handicap tag team competitions at Vengeance and a clean sweep in an elimination handicap match at XXXIII on Saturday Night's Main Event XXIII, were played.

The team also competed with other teams in Raw's tag competition for the World Tag Team Championship at the same time as their rivalry with DX and their alliance with McMahon. Jim Duggan and Eugene, Charlie Haas and Viscera's team, as well as Snitsky and Val Venis, successfully defended the tag team championship. They then began a long feud with the Highlanders, whom they later lost to preserve the name Unfortun.

On successive episodes of Raw, the Spirit Squad as a whole began losing streak with distinct members losing singles matches to Ric Flair. On the October 23 episode of Raw, Kenny screamed in the debuting Cryme Tyme, Kenny attacked Mikey, announcing that he would defeat Flair. Kenny was successful, despite Flair trying to even the odds by bringing other WWE Legends (Dusty Rhodes, Sgt. To the ring with him, he is the slaughter and Roddy Piper" Roddy Piper. It was then announced that Flair and a hero, chosen by online voting, would face the team in the World Tag Team Championship at the Cyber Sunday pay-per-view in early November. Piper was selected by the fans, and Flair defeated Kenny and Mikey to win the championship.

After losing a five-on-three match against Flair and DX, the team disbanded on the November 27 Raw. DX transformed all five members into a crate stamped "OVW, Louisville, Kentucky," a reference to the Squad's new territory.

Kenny Dykstra, an homage to baseball player Lenny Dykstra, was repackaged as Kenny Dykstra with new clothing and entrance music after the Spirit Squad's breakup. He was interested in joining Team Rated-RKO, which was made up of Edge and Randy Orton. He had to first appear in order to join. He continued the feud with Ric Flair, winning three straight games before losing to him on January 15, 2007. Dykstra was in the 2007 Royal Rumble match and was disqualified by Edge. Dykstra became a mainstay on Raw's sister show Heat after he feuded with Flair, battling Eugene and Val Venis.

He then formed a tag team with Johnny Nitro, but the pair broke when Dykstra was called to the SmackDown. As part of the WWE Supplemental Draft, the brand debuted on June 17, 2007.

Dykstra made his debut on SmackDown's July 6 episode! Chuck Palumbo, who rebutted, has a losing battle. Dykstra appeared in a 20-man battle royal for the World Heavyweight Championship and was defeated by Chris Masters later that evening, losing in singles competition to Matt Hardy.

On the July 27 episode of SmackDown, Dykstra developed an on-screen friendship with Victoria. Both teams competed in mixed tag team matches, most against Jimmy Wang Yang and Torrie Wilson, Chuck Palumbo, and Michelle McCool. They also went back to the ring for matches almost every week. Dykstra made his return from television in the first half of 2008 on August 15, losing to WWE Champion Triple H on November 10, 2008.

In late 2016, Doane, Kenny, and Mikey returned to WWE for a short storyline with Dolph Ziggler (formerly Nicky in the Spirit Squad). They taunted Ziggler about his time in the Spirit Squad before threatening him at the behest of the Intercontinental Champions, The Miz and Maryse on October 4, on SmackDown. He and Mikey tried to deter Ziggler in his career vs. title match under Maryse's command five days later, but they were unable to do so. Kenny and Mikey defeated Ziggler in a two-on-one handicap match on October 11; Ziggler won but Rhyno and Heath Slater intervened, but The Miz then robbed Ziggler. On October 25, Kenny and Mikey defeated Slater and Rhyno for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship. They appeared in tag team matches throughout November before getting banned from television.

Under his real name, Doane began working for Dragon Gate USA in 2009. It was revealed on December 3, 2009, that Doane would be joining newly promoted promotion Evolve as Kenn Doane. He made his debut at the promotions first show on January 16, 2010, in a surprise to Jimmy Jacobs.

In a tryout dark match for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, losing to Homicide on March 9, 2010, Doane, under his real name, wrestled in a tryout dark match for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. The Spirit Squad was eliminated from the tournament in the second round by the Golden Trio after a victory over Sinn Bodhi and the Odditorium on September 19 (Qefka the Quiet and Sir Oliver Grimsly).

Spirit Squad had lost the titles to Hounds of Hatred 15 days later. Kenny and Mikey unsuccessfully challenged The Young Bucks for the ROH World Tag Team Championship at Ring of Honor television tapings in April 2017. Squad members Dykstra and Mike Mondo had signed to Major League Wrestling, and Mondo's team was announced on July 24, 2019. (MLW). They would make their debut at Never Say Never Showcase in October. Kenny resigned from in-ring action on April 20, 2021, according to his tweets.
