Early life
In Carmichael, California, Jakle was born. She had been involved in music from a young age, appearing as part of the Sacramento Children's Chorus, singing The Star-Spangled Banner at sporting concerts, including a San Francisco 49ers game in 2006 and auditioning for American Idol. In 2003, Jakle started writing music.
Jakle, who graduated from Loretto High School, attended the University of Southern California, where she concentrated in communications. In 2007, Jakle joined the SoCal VoCals, a cappella group. The SoCal VoCals also won the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella in 2008 and again in 2010.
Jakle appeared on NBC in season one of The Sing-Off, a singing competition broadcast on NBC, as part of a group branded "The SoCals" in 2009. In the third episode, the SoCals were eliminated. In 2010, Jakle appeared on The Sing-Off for the second time, this time as part of "The Backbeats." The Backbeats finished third place in the annual tournament.

Jakle is the great-granddaughter of Major League Baseball executive Branch Rickey.
Jakle is the ambassador for ReACT, a Montana initiative that encourages teenagers not to smoke.
Career
Jakle joined the band By the Way as the lead vocalist while attending USC. In 2007, the band produced a self-titled extended play. Jakle performed a solo extended play, Spare Change, that featured a mix of produced and acoustic songs during her junior years.
After graduating from USC, Jakle began working as an actress in Los Angeles. Jessica's first film role was as Jessica in Pitch Perfect's 2012 musical comedy Pitch Perfect, with Jakle being selected as a "ringer" due to her experience in a cappella, according to vocal producer Deke Sharon. In 2013, Jakle appeared in 42, a biographical film starring baseball player Jackie Robinson as Branch Rickey, Jakle's great-grandfather. In 2015 and Pitch Perfect 3 in 2017, Jakle reprised her role as Jessica.
Several singles were released by Jakle in 2013, including a cover of Paramore's "Ain't It Fun" on December.
