The album was critically praised by the BBC: "Keaton Henson isn't a show-off," the BBC said, "but he has every right to be" with talent like this. The album received a score of 70 out of 100 on Metacritic. Dear... didn't make it to the charts, but three singles were released – "Charon," "Small Hands" and "You Don't Know How Lucky You Are" – all of which were followed by music videos. It was first announced in February 2013. "Up there, he's warmed by the fire, he's cloistered away from Twitter and all the other sins of this parish," the BBC said of the album. There is no safer way to put an end to the diner than by putting this number on." A limited edition of the album was limited to three bonus songs and a hand-painted piece of art created from a large painting by Henson that had been cut into 196 pieces.
