Early life
Louis Kevin Celestin was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on August 25, 1992. His family immigrated to Montreal, where he was raised, shortly after he was born. Kaytranada began playing at the age of 14. After his brother introduced him to the FL Studio last year, Kaytranada began to produce at 15 years old.
Kaytranada revealed that he is gay in a Fader article in April 2016.
Career
Celestin began his career under the name Kaytradamus in 2010. Before changing his name to Kaytranada in 2012, he completed two projects as Kaytradamus. Kaytranada was a member of HW&W Recordings, an independent label with roots in Los Angeles and Toronto. Kaytranada has released 13 projects and 41 remixes. He has visited more than 50 Canadian, American, European, and Australian cities.
He signed an exclusive recording deal with XL Recordings in December 2014. During 2015, Kaytranada opened for two nights of Madonna's Rebel Heart Tour, one in Canada and one in the United States. When a snapshot of them emerged online about February 15, there was a suspicion that Kaytranada and producer Rick Rubin had started working together. Pulse Recordings later reported that they had formed a partnership.
On May 6, 2016, his debut album, 99.9%, was released. Among other things, the album includes interviews from GoldLink, AlunaGeorge, Syd, Anderson, P.P.A., and Vic Mensa. Following My Intuition, David worked with Craig David on the song "Got It Good," which is on David's sixth studio album, Following My Intuition. Kaytranada received the Polaris Music Prize in 2016 for his album 99.9%. Pitchfork gave the album a score of 8.0.
On December 13, 2019, Bubba, his second album, was announced on RCA Records. Pitchfork gave it a score of 8.1.
Kaytranada received a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for '10%' and "Best Dance/Electronic Album for 'Bubba' on March 14, 2021.'
Kaytranada will appear on two songs, I'm Lying and High Grade, of Lancey Foux's album LIFE IN HELL, which will be released on October 28th, 2022, according to the website.
