Kate Nash Life

Kate Marie Nash (born 6 July 1987 in Harrow, London) is an English singer-songwriter and actress.

Operating in the genres of indie pop and indie rock, several of her singles and albums have reached the Top 40 in the UK. Nash was born in Harrow, London to an English father and Irish mother.

She studied at the BRIT School before launching her music career in 2005.

In 2007 she released "Foundations", a song which became a sleeper hit and brought her to public attention in the UK.

Her debut album, Made of Bricks, peaked at #1 in the UK and #36 in the US.

Nash subsequently won the award for Best British Female Artist at the 2008 Brit Awards.

Nash's second studio album, My Best Friend Is You, was released in 2010 and reached the top 10 in the UK and Germany. Nash self-released her third studio album, Girl Talk, on 4 March 2013.

The album failed to match the commercial success of her previous albums, though it charted within the top 100 in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Austria.

Her fourth studio album, Yesterday Was Forever, was self-released on 30 March 2018, funded by her fans via a Kickstarter campaign.

Aside from music, Nash has acted in various films and TV shows.

Most notably, she starred in the 2012 film Greetings from Tim Buckley, as well as the 2013 films Powder Room and Syrup.

Since 2017, Nash has been part of the cast of the Netflix series GLOW as Rhonda "Britannica" Richardson.

Early life

Kate Marie Nash was born in the London Borough of Harrow in London on 6 July 1987, the second of three daughters born to an English father and Irish mother. Her father, Steve, is a systems analyst, while her mother, Marie (née Walsh), was a hospice nurse. She learned to play the piano at an early age. At 18, she underwent cardiac radiofrequency ablation in order to eliminate tachycardia. The surgery subsequently inspired her song "Death Proof". She attended the BRIT School and originally wanted to study acting, but turned to music after she was rejected from several drama colleges and universities, including the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Prior to finding success, she worked in a River Island shop and a Nando's restaurant.

Personal life

Nash started dating Ryan Jarman in 2007, frontman of The Cribs, after meeting while they were both guests on an episode of the music television programme Later... with Jools Holland that year. The pair were reported to be planning to get married in early 2009, but Jarman announced in March 2012 that they had broken up, in part due to his struggle with anorexia and other psychological problems.

In 2008, following intensive touring, Nash had what she described as a "proper breakdown", including a relapse of the mild OCD which she had experienced as a child. She has been open about her mental health problems and struggles with anxiety.

Nash became a vegan in 2017, having been a vegetarian since 2009. Her decision was prompted by watching the film Okja.

Kate Nash Career

Career

Nash began performing after falling down the stairs and breaking her foot, leaving her homebound. She began performing live, appearing in pubs, at open mic nights, and an anti-folk festival in Brighton. After a few gigs, she uploaded her music to MySpace, where she found a manager and gained exposure thanks to Lily Allen's help. Valgeir Sigursson's debut single, "Caroline's a Victim" and "Birds," was recorded and produced in Iceland and released through Moshi Moshi Records in February 2007. The edition was limited to 2,000 copies and only on 7-inch vinyl. Another 1,000 copies were printed due to high demand, but these also sold out. CD promo copies were designed for distribution to journalists and DJs and are now available for purchase. "Caroline's a Victim" was directed by Kinga Burza and received airplay on MTV2. The song was later released on Moshi Moshi Singles Compilation and the single's B-side "Birds," which was later released on Nash's debut album. Both songs have been released on digital music websites.

Nash was signed to Polydor offshoot Fiction Records in April 2007, and the following month she made her official TV appearance on Later... with Jools Holland. "Foundations," her second single, which she co-wrote with producer Paul Epworth, was released by Fiction on June 18, 2007, and it ranked second in the official UK Singles Chart. Following this success, the group announced plans to postpone the debut of Nash's debut album Made of Bricks to 6 August 2007. The album, which was produced by Paul Epworth, featured many of the songs she had performed on her two national tours. Made of Bricks was leaked to filesharing platforms a few days before it's official commercial release and has received mixed feedback; The Independent put it in "pole position for the worst album of the year," according to a BBC analysis, "an album of surprising verve and variety." However, it was still profitable when it debuted and peaked on the UK Albums Chart at number 1, and it remained in the top 40 weeks for more than 40 weeks.

Nash appeared at a number of festivals in the park, including the Wireless Festival, Bestival, Electric Gardens, Glastonbury, Latitude, Reading, and Leeds. She released three more singles from Made of Bricks between late 2007 and early 2008. Both "Mouthwash" and "Pumpkin Soup" made it to the Top 40 on the UK Singles Chart, and "Mouthwash" and "Pumpkin Soup" made the Top 40. Despite the fact that her fifth album "Merry Happiness" didn't do well in the United Kingdom, the song found minor success in other countries, including the United States and Canada. In January 2008, Made of Bricks reached No. 36 on the US Billboard 200 chart. In the United Kingdom and Gold in Germany, it would eventually be rated Platinum. At the 2008 Brit Awards, Nash was named with the Best British Female Solo Artist award. She also received the Q Award for Emerging Artist and the NME Award for Best Solo Artist. In 2008, Nash began her first tour in Australia and the United States, and she opened the 2008 Glastonbury Festival.

Nash became one of the founding members of Featured Artists' Coalition, a non-profit group and lobbying group, in March 2009, and she revealed she was in the early stages of recording her second album. She was introduced by her boyfriend Ryan Jarman to Bernard Butler, the artist of Duffy's debut album Rockferry and a former Suede guitarist. In the summer of that year, the pair performed on eight songs at RAK Studios. Kate joined The Receeders in late 2009 as a side project, with Jon Jackson and Brett Alaimo on bass guitar. The band appeared on 93 Feet East in December.

Nash announced that the album was complete in January 2010, and the song "I Just Love You More" was released the next month, according to her official website. "Do-Wah-Doo" the album's first official single, which was released on April 12, 2010, saw moderate chart success. My Best Friend Is You, Nash's second studio album, was released a week later and received mostly favorable feedback. The music was described as having a girl group feel, influenced by a variety of genres, from Wall of Sound, Motown, to no wave, and protest grrl. The album debuted on the charts in the United Kingdom and Germany, and elsewhere, it met with limited success. "Kiss That Grrl" and "Later On" were two further singles from the album, but they failed to chart. The album was funded through a Kickstarter campaign on PledgeMusic and recorded in Los Angeles. Girl Talk received mixed to glowing feedback, as well as a modest commercial success.
