Early years

Carl Abou Samah was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and he died. He came from a musical family. His mother was a piano teacher and his father was a fan of ecstasy, derbake, and guitar. During the civil war in Lebanon, he and his family migrated to Sharjah, UAE, when he was three years old. He studied in the UAE. Karl explained in an interview with Shave Magazine that the word 'Abou Samah' means 'father of sacrifice' in Arabic. His stage name, 'wolf,' comes from a nickname he received on his high school basketball team because he was the youngest and fastest in his team. He also claims that his mother and father led him to a career in music. Wolf's mother was a piano teacher and his father played guitar, drums, and the traditional Middle Eastern ord.

Wolf immigrated to Canada in 1995, residing in Montreal, Quebec. At Concordia University in Montreal, he researched Film Studies. He began his writing co-producing in 2001 and has been writing "behind the scenes." He appeared as a backup singer for a few hits by the Quebec band Dubmatique. Gabrielle Destroismaisons' 2001 hit album produced two singles co-written by him that reached No. 10. The year's top 10 on the BDS Francophone Charts, with the honour winning him a Félix Award at the L'ADISQ Awards for "Best Mix and Sound of the Year."

Wolf's friendship with Gabrielle brought him to the attention of Antoine Sicotte, the top-selling Canadian pop band Sky, where he was recruited as a singer-songwriter and became Sky's next lead singer in 2002. Wolf co-wrote and co-produced Picture Perfect, the third Sky album (on Sextant/EMI), which received a lot of airplay in Canada. Sicotte and Wolf worked on the hugely popular Star Académie reality television show in Quebec. The following album was the most successful album in Canada in 2003, notching record sales in Canadian terms and awarding Karl Wolf with the SOCAN Award for Most Popular Song. In 2004, the Star Académie II sequel was another big success, with the album going double-platinum.
