Karl Stefanovic Life

Karl Stefanovic (born 12 August 1974) is an Australian television presenter.

He is currently the presenter of This Time Next Year on the Nine Network and in November 2019 was announced as one of the co-hosts from 2020 of the network's morning breakfast program, Today, a position he previously held from 2005 to 2018.

Personal life

Stefanovic was born in Darlinghurst, New South Wales, to a Serbian-German father and an Australian mother. His younger brother, Peter Stefanovic, is a correspondent with 60 Minutes.

He was educated at St Augustines College (Cairns), the Anglican Church Grammar School and the Queensland University of Technology, where he graduated with a degree in journalism in 1994.

Stefanovic met journalist Cassandra Thorburn at a party in Rockhampton in 1995 and later married; they have three children together. In September 2016, it was revealed that Stefanovic had separated from his wife after 21 years; their divorce was finalised in October 2017.

In February 2018, Stefanovic made public his engagement to Jasmine Yarbrough. He married Yarbrough in December 2018 at a ceremony in Mexico. They have one child together.

Career

Stefanovic studied journalism at university but after graduating his degree, he was unable to guarantee a cadetship. He auditioned for NIDA at his father's request, but did not make it to the final cut despite being in the midst of just a few rounds of auditions. Despite being able to reapply for the following year, he took up a job with WIN Television in Rockhampton instead.

He began reporting for WIN in Rockhampton and Cairns in 1994 as a cadet reporter.

Stefanovic took up a New Zealand reporter for One Network News in 1996. Stefanovic returned to Australia in 1998 with a role reporting and presenting for Ten News in Brisbane, as well as a as a replacement news presenter for Ron Wilson in Sydney.

Stefanovic first joined Nine News in Brisbane in 2000 as a reporter and back-up presenter for Nine News. In 2000, he was given the Queensland Media Award for Best News Coverage for his article on the Childers backpacker hostel fire. His research into the 2001 Warragamba bushfires in Sussex Inlet in January 2002 led to his transfer to Nine's Sydney newsroom, and he was instrumental in the coverage of the 2003 Canberra bushfires.

Stefanovic was fired by Today host Steve Liebmann in February 2005. On A Current Affair, Tracy Grimshaw has served as a fill-in host. He appeared on Ice on Netflix in 2006. He made it to the grand final of the show, but a viewer poll defeated him. Stefanovic took over as host of Nine Network's Carols by Candlelight in 2008, after longtime host Ray Martin was fired. He continued to host Carols by Candlelight until 2012, before being replaced by David Campbell.

Stefanovic, a contributing reporter on 60 Minutes in 2011, as well as his hosting duties at Today. A Current Affair's Sunday evening edition was also on sale (ACA Sunday).

When the 2011 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race awarded line honours, he was a crew member aboard racing supermaxi yacht Investec LOYAL. The 2012 London Olympics were hosted by Stefanovic in the evening. Larry Emdur, Guillaume Brahimi, Tom Slingsby, Phil Waugh, and Jude Bolton were among the crew members aboard Perpetual Loyal's 2013 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

Stefanovic hosted the panel show The Verdict on the Nine Network in October 2015. The weekly show mixed elements of popular programs The Project and Q&A were incorporated into successful programs, but the court chastised for the controversy due to a panelist line-up.

On the Nine Network in July 2017, Stefanvoic began hosting This Time Next Year.

Stefanovic would not be back as a co-host of Today in 2019.

Stefanovic will co-host Today, alongside Weekend Today co-host and 60 Minutes reporter Allison Langdon, beginning in November 2019.

Stefanovic celebrated 20 years with the Nine Network in June 2020.

Stefanovic would be a regular contributor to 2GB in June 2019.
