He was a semi-finalist on SpikeTV's The Ultimate Fighter, training under UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock.

He holds notable victories over Chris Leben and Jason MacDonald.

Starnes is currently under contract with World Series of Fighting, fighting in their light heavyweight division.

Early life

Starnes became involved in the martial arts at an early age and began teaching when he was a teenager. He started training in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu at the Gracie Academy in 1994 in Torrance, California.

Starnes made his UFC debut on June 24, 2006 over Danny Abbadi in the finale of The Ultimate Fighter 3.

Following this Starnes' victory over Chris Leben by unanimous decision on May 26, 2007, the Fight of The Night bonus was also won for his efforts.

Starnes defeated Yushin Okami in a third round TKO during the UFC 64 tournament.

He lost by a unanimous vote to Nate Quarry at UFC 83 in Montreal, Canada, in his last UFC match. MMA pundits and followers had chastised Starnes for avoiding Quarry for the majority of the game, resulting in the coin's new name, "The Running Man." Many believe his poor results in this battle was one of the primary reasons for his release by the UFC.
