Career
Zackham wrote and directed Going Greek, a 2001 fraternity play after moving to Los Angeles in the 1990s. He also compiled a "List of Things to Do Before Kicking the Bucket," which he shortened to "Justin's Bucket List." The first thing on the list was to have a film made at a major Hollywood studio. Several years later, that list became the basis for a speculative screenplay, which he wrote before submitting to publishers, nearly all of whom refused him. After reading the first ten pages and said he wanted it to be his next film, Rob Reiner, who said Zackham, got to Zackham and said it would be his next film, if Zackham was agreeable to Zackham. Warner Bros. published the Bucket List, which made them a global success. Both Webster's Dictionary and the Oxford English Dictionary included the word "bucket list" in 2012.
Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, Katherine Heigl, Topher Grace, and Robin Williams appeared in The Big Wedding, Zackham's film. Lionsgate purchased the film and it was released on April 26, 2013.
Paul Potts, Britain's Got Talent winner, Zackham also wrote the original screenplay One Chance. The Weinstein Company's James Corden, Julie Walters, Colm Meaney, Mackenzie Crook, and Alexandra Roach starred in the film. It was screened in the Special Presentation Section of the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. The film was shot in Italy and the United Kingdom.
Zackham wrote and produced the Second Act for STX Entertainment. Jennifer Lopez, Leah Remini, Annaleigh Ashford, Vanessa Hudgens, Dan Bucatinsky, Freddie Stroma, Milo Ventimiglia, Treat Williams, and Charlyne Yi appeared in the 2018 film. Peter Segal produced the film.
