Justin Charles Pierce (March 21, 1975 – July 10, 2000) was a British-American actor and a skateboarder who grew up in the United States. He is best known for his appearances in the 1995 film Kids and as Roach in the 2000 film Next Friday.
Pierce died in Las Vegas by suicide on July 10, 2000.
Early life
Pierce was born in London, England, to a Welsh mother and an Australian father, and was raised in New York City's Marble Hill and Kingsbridge sections. Pierce's mother visited his father while in Europe, but no one told him who his true father was.
He began stealing cigarettes and food, and he often skipped school in favour of skateboarding. Pierce pushed out of school and into a "warren of rooms" in a basement of a building on 176th Street, which was "teeming" with fellow skaters. Pierce was later arrested for smoking marijuana and opium.
Personal life
Pierce married stylist Gina Rizzo in Las Vegas in July 1999.
Career
Pierce was a member of the original Zoo York skateboard team and was featured in the Zoo York 'Mixtape' video (1998), journals, and advertisements for the company. He was also a member of the original Supreme Crew, as well as close friends Harold Hunter and Peter Bici.
He appeared in the 1997 film A Brother's Kiss as the teenage Lex, portrayed as an adult by Nick Chinlund. Pierce has appeared in television films, including 1997's First Time Felon. In the film Next Friday, he appeared alongside Ice Cube and Mike Epps. Pierce's last on-screen appearance was in the 2002 film Looking for Leonard, which was released after his death. The film was dedicated to his memory.
Supreme have published featured photos of his skateboarding (taken by photographer Ari Marcopoulos) in its clothing lines and publications in honor of his patron. On the Supreme New York website, a promotional video of Pierce and the Supreme Crew skateboarding has surfaced. Pierce was discovered skateboarding in Washington Square Park, Pierce, by film director Larry Clark, who starred him in his controversial 1995 film Kids. Pierce received an Independent Spirit Award for his portrayal of Casper, Telly's profane and heroin-addicted skateboarder friend (Leo Fitzpatrick) and relocated to Los Angeles after the success of Kids.
