Jung Ho-seok (born February 18, 1994), better known by his stage name J-Hope (stylized as j-hope), is a South Korean rapper, singer, dancer, and record producer.
J-Hope made his debut as a member of the South Korean boy band BTS in 2013 and was a member of Big Hit Entertainment. On March 1, 2018, J-Hope's first solo mixtape, Hope World, was released around the world.

Early life and education
Jung Ho-seok (Korean: ) was born in Gwangju, South Korea, on February 18, 1994, where he lived with his parents and older sister, Jung Ji-woo.
J-Hope began studying at Hanyang Cyber University for the Master of Business Administration degree in Advertising and Media in March 2019. He earned a degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment from Global Cyber University.
Personal life
In 2016, J-Hope bought an apartment in South Korea worth US$1.6 million for his personal use. As of 2018, he and his bandmates live in Hannam-dong, Seoul, South Korea.
Since 2018, J-Hope has been a member of the "Green Noble Club," which honors Child Fund Korea's top-value contributors. He donated 100 million (US$90,000) to the charity in honor of those attending his high school alma mater in Gwangju on February 18, 2019. He previously donated 150 million ($135,000) in December 2018, but requested that the donation be kept private at the time. He donated another $100 million in December 2019. In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, he gave children suffering from economic hardships on November 17, 2020. He gave the children with visual and hearing impairments $1150 million on February 18, 2021. He donated 100 million for children in Tanzania, Africa, on May 4 for Children's Day. He gave another 125 million to pay heating costs for children in low-income families and childcare services as well as pediatric patients' medical expenses. Since 2018, J-Hope has contributed a total of 800 million to Child Fund Korea. Through the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association, J-Hope donated 100 million to assist those affected by the 2022 South Korean floods.
Career
J-Hope was a member of an underground dance group called Neuron, and he took dance lessons at Gwangju Music Academy for six years, from fourth grade to his first year in high school before his BTS debuts. He was well-known for his dancing abilities and has won numerous national competitions, including first place in a national dance competition in 2008. His dancing grew to a love of singing, and he auditioned to be an idol coach. J-Hope, a student, debuted on singer Jo Kwon's album "Animal," which was released in 2012.
On June 13, 2013, J-Hope made his BTS debut as a member of BTS on M! The countdown is on. After RM and Suga, he was the third member to join the company as a trainee. J-Hope and fellow BTS member V.L. On June 14, 2019, J-Hope teamed with Zara Larsson on a soundtrack for a mobile game BTS World.
On March 1, 2018, J-Hope introduced Hope World, his first solo mixtape, worldwide. The lead single "Daydream" was accompanied by a music video. On March 6, the B-side single "Airplane" was released in a music video. The mixtape debuted at number 63 and peaked at number 38 on the Billboard 200, making him the highest-charting Korean solo act on the list up to that position. Six of the album's songs made it to the World Digital Song Sales chart, including "Daydream," which peaked atop the charts, making J-Hope one of only ten Korean artists, including BTS, to debut at number one. Following his success on his solo debut, he landed him at number three on the Emerging Artists chart and number 97 on the Artist 100 for the week of March 10—he peaked at number 91 on the latter the following week. He is the fifth Korean artist and the second Korean soloist after Psy to be voted on the Artist 100. The mixtape has been charted in ten countries around the world, with "Daydream" charting in three of them. On Billboard's year-end World Albums Chart for 2018, it came in at number five. J-Hope's full version of Hope World's three-year anniversary "Blue Side (Outro)" was released. On March 1, 2021, the three-minute long version was added to the BTS SoundCloud page for free.
On September 27, J-Hope unveiled "Chicken Noodle Soup," the third Korean solo artist to chart on the Hot 100 for the first time outside of the company, and the sixth Korean artist to do so overall. "Chicken Noodle Soup" became J-Hope's second hit on the World Digital Song Sales chart, securing it at number one on the first day.
Hybe unveiled J-Hope as the first member of BTS to debut as a solo artist on June 14, 2022. Jack in the Box, his debut solo album, was preceded by the lead single "More" on July 1. On July 31, J-Hope made his appearance debut at Lollapalooza on the final day of the festival. He is the first South Korean musician to headline a main stage at a major US music festival.
