Julianne Hough Career

Career

In the 2006 ABC game show Show Me the Money, Hough was one of the Million Dollar Dancers. She and her partner, Olympic gold medal-winning speed skater Apolo Ohno, won season four of Dancing with the Stars, making Hough the youngest professional dancer to win on the program. Hough and her partner, three-time Indianapolis 500 champion Hélio Castroneves, were the champions of season five on November 27, 2007. Hough returned to season six with radio host/comedian Adam Carolla, but they were disqualified in week four. In July 2008, Hough was nominated for her mambo "Para Los Rumberos" (performed with partner Hélio Castroneves) on Dancing with the Stars for her 60th Primetime Emmy Awards in the category of "Outstanding Choreography."

The cast of season seven was announced on August 25, 2008, and Hough was partnered with Hannah Montana actor Cody Linley. Following the repeat performance, she developed abdominal pains during their jitterbug appearance on October 27, 2008, and was rushed to a hospital immediately. She had surgery to have her appendix removed, causing her to miss several shows; Edyta liwi'ska stood in for her. Hough returned to the show, but the pair was eventually disqualified in the semifinals competition. She and her brother competed in the "Design-A-Dance" competition on November 12th, where she appeared on the results show dancing the jive to "Great Balls of Fire" with her brother.

On November 20, 2008, Hough appeared on Ryan Seacrest's radio show On Air with Ryan Seacrest. She revealed that she would not return to Dancing with the Stars in order to advance her musical career. However, she did return for season eight, collaborating with country singer Chuck Wicks. In week eight of the competition, they were disqualified and ended in sixth place. They then started dating after the season was over. On October 11, 2011, Hough returned to Dancing with the Stars and performed with her Footloose co-star Kenny Wormald twice, as well as her brother. She appeared in a dance performance on May 15, 2012, to promote her film Rock of Ages. She was guest judge in place of Len Goodman on October 7, 2013, the first time a former pro dancer returned to judge. She returned to the panel in September 2014 as a permanent judge on the board, a position she held until 2017. She returned to the show in 2021 as a guest judge, remembering her brother Derek.

On March 18, 2014, Hough and her brother Derek announced the appearance of a group of dancers hired by the Houghs in over 40 cities around the United States and Canada, as well as the performance and singing of both of them, as well as the appearance of a group of dancers hired by the Houghs who earned their positions by auditions. They began the sold-out tour in Park City, Kansas, on May 25, 2014, and then ended it in Los Angeles on July 26, 2014. Several new shows were added to the tour schedule, which also sold out due to the popularity of ticket sales and several sold-out venues long before the tour officially started. The Hough siblings collaborated with Nappytabs on the tour choreography.

Following the success of the 2014 tour and high demand, the Houghs also announced the return of "Move Live on Tour" in the summer of 2015. The sold-out tour spanned many cities throughout the United States and Canada from June 12, 2015, to August 8, 2015, and saw larger venues than ever before. "Nappytabs" by Tabitha and Napoleon D'umo returned as joint choreographers with the Hough siblings. Auditions were also held to recruit a new group of dancers to the Houghs, but there were some back-up dancers from last year that had returned.

They announced on December 14, 2016, via social media, that they will be going on "MOVE BEYOND Live on Tour," in 2017.

"That Song in My Head" was Hough's second album and the first to be broadcast on country radio.

It was supposed to be the lead single for her sophomore album, Wildfire, but the album was never released.

In June 2012, Hough told AOL's The Boot that her second album was "completely done" and that she was "really looking forward to the record." However, she also stated that no plans had been made to release Wildfire due to the underperforming lead single and "a lot of buzz" in her film career. She does intend to refocus on her music career at some point, but she says, "I feel like when I have the opportunity to concentrate on it, and [I'll return to] my music."
