Yulia Volkova (born 20 February 1985), better known by the alternative spelling Julia, is a Russian singer, recording artist, and actress best known for her role in the Russian girl group t.A.T.u., as well as Lena Katina.

The girl group, who was led by Ivan Shapovalov in March 1999, signed a landmark deal with Universal Music Russia, where they eventually signed to Universal's sub-label Interscope Records in 2001. "All the Things She Said" by the group's first single "All the Things She Said" dominated charts in Australia, Austria, Denmark, Italy, Japan, NZ, Switzerland, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, but Julia and Lena's marriage onscreen caused controversies in countries such as Australia, Austria, Denmark, Italy, Japan, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, Switzerland, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Personal life

Volkova revealed in May 2004 that she was pregnant by her then-longtime partner Pavel Sidorov, which caused some controversy due to Sidorov's being pregnant with a wife and a child. Viktoria Pavlovna "Vika" Volkova, the couple's daughter, was born in Moscow on September 23rd, 2004. Volkova does not keep in touch with Sidorov.

Volkova had a long-term relationship with Ukrainian businessman Parviz Yasinov in 2007. Yasinov and Yasinov got married, according to the news. On December 27, 2007, Volkova gave birth to a boy named Samir, who was born in Moscow for the first time. It was speculated by the media that she had been suffering from postpartum depression in 2008, but it was never confirmed. Volkova and Yasinov announced in 2010 that they had broken up, but denied accusations that she and her son had been separated from her son.

Volkova was diagnosed with stage I papillary thyroid cancer in 2012. She underwent surgery in a Moscow hospital, where her thyroid gland was removed as a result of the tumor's formation. Her vocal nerves were harmed during the surgery, and she lost the ability to speak properly. The tumor did not spread and she did not need chemotherapy; rather, she underwent hormonal therapy. Volkova was treated twice in Germany after two surgeries to recover her vocal cords in Israel. However, the therapies were ineffective. After recovering her voice after undergoing another surgery in South Korea, she was able to reclaim her voice. She had a relapse of cancer, underwent surgery, and then became cancer-free in October of the same year.

"I don't wear traditional Muslim clothing, but I converted to Islam because it's the closest to my heart," Volkova told Hello Magazine in March 2013. When asked if she would like to live in a Muslim world, she replied, "Why not?" In 2017, she returned to Eastern Orthodox Christianity.

Volkova has officially stated that she is bisexual in several interviews, saying, "I still like boys and girls." Volodya, my current husband, who is sitting in front of me, will say he knows about my girl stories. This is a new issue for me. Quite recently, I had a girlfriend that I adored... This is not even the echoes of the past; this is what I now live in.

Volkova appeared on a Ukrainian game show called Lie Detector in September 2014 and made remarks deemed highly homophobic towards homosexual people. "I would condemn her son for being gay, I would condemn him because a real man must be a good man," the show's host said. Despite this, she said, "two girls together—not the same thing as two guys together." Lesbians seem to be much nicer than gay people, and she has also stated that they are still "better than murderers, robbers, or heroin users." Nonetheless, her sexual orientation sparked outrage on social media, where she was portrayed as extremely misconceived and biased. "God is teaching us to live in love," Lena Katina said, "not to judge others." "I believe everyone should be able to love what they love and be who they want to live with." Volkova spoke out later this month at a concert, saying, "I]t is impossible to love each other and then just forget about it." It's impossible. And I am so glad to see those people here today with whom this friendship has thrived. No matter what, this partnership will go on for a long time." "The only thing that is important is feeling...inside," she continued. "I love [my gay friends] so much, and I never said I don't."

Volkova and Katina began feuds in 2010 after Volkova expressed her opinion on Katina's solo career, saying, "She has the right to [sing t. A.T.u." [But] it's so stupid and foolish. If you work alone, it means you do your own work. Her stuff, I think, is silly, and she will inevitably have to leave and disappear," says the author. "I saw Julia's interview on YouTube," Katina wrote about it. Of course, I was compelled to be upset. But I want to tell everyone that I have a completely opposite view of the entire situation, including Julia's. I think she's an exceptional person and I sincerely hope she'll do well in all the things she hopes for." In 2011, the organization was officially disbanded.

Volkova said in a January 2012 interview that she no longer corresponds with Lena Katina. The pair appeared in The Voice of Romania for a brief period in 2012–2014; a concert in Kyiv; and a pre-opening appearance at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, a re-released version of 200 km/h in the Wrong Lane. Katina wrote a video message on her official YouTube channel on February 17 that she would no longer be working with Volkova. On the other hand, Volkova released a video message on February 20th claiming that there is "no big reunion" but not t.A.T.u. "joint projects" were underway. Katina's "meaning" behind the video was also discussed, and she also revealed that they would film a video for the new single. Volkova sent a video message on her official YouTube channel in response to Katina's message on Friday, March 5th. Despite "real reservations of trepidation on Lena's [Volkova] and [her] behavior," the pair's cooperation was likely, referring to the debut of their new single as well as their music video.

Both singers premiered the video Together Apart at the Cannes Film Festival on May 22, 2014, as part of Corcor's "A Sight of Cupid" project, which included several short films about love. The video accompanied their album "ов в кадом мновении" ("Love in Every Moment"), which was produced together with musicians Ligalize and Mike Tompkins.

Life and career

Volkova was born in Moscow, Russia, on 20 February 1985 to a middle-class family. Oleg Volkov, her father, a businessman, and her mother, Larissa Volkova, was a hairdresser. Volkova began learning how to play the piano at the age of 6. When she was nine years old, she became a member of Russia's Children's chorus Neposedy, where she would meet future t.A.T.u. Lena Katina, a singer, has performed in Lena Katina's debut. Volkova moved to a school that nurtured artistic talent at the age of 11, and three years later, Neposy joined t.A.T.u. She has claimed that she was barred from Neposedy for misbehaving, but Neposedy representatives deny this, saying that she graduated as all of their members did at a certain age.

Ivan Shapovalov, the founder and former chief of T.A.T.U., conceived the image of the pair in an attempt to capitalize on the common fascination and admiration of schoolgirl lesbians and appeal to a large fan base. Shapovalov was the act's manager until 2004, when the two performers came out and revealed that Shapovalov had incorporated the lesbian identity, and that they had even been told what to say in interviews.

T.A.T.U. n.T.U. Soon, the most profitable Russian group of all time emerged, scoring a number of hits with "All the Things She Said," "Not Gonna Get Us," and "All About Us." They also participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 and came third with "Ne Ver', Ne Boysia," only three points behind Turkey's winner. They released three English-language studio albums: 200 km/h in the Wrong Lane, Dangerous and Moving, and Waste Management; three Russian-language studio albums were released: 200 Po Vstrechnoy, Lyudi Invalidy, and Vesyolye Ulybki.

Many Russian websites have started to believe that Volkova had left t.A.T.u. In March 2009, the group went solo. The official blog denied the allegations that she had resigned but said that both girls would be doing separate solo projects from now on and t.A.T.u was no longer a full-time student. However, in early January, the pair revealed a video in which they said they were still together and planning more songs in 2010.

In March 2011, it was revealed that the T.A.T.u. The official disbandement of the union was announced. The pair celebrated their 12 years together by releasing two remix albums titled Waste Management Remixes pt. Waste Management Remixes pt. 1 and Waste Management Remixes pt. 2.

Volkova announced on her YouTube channel that she was working on a solo album in Moscow and Los Angeles after the breakup of t.A.T.u.

Volkova revealed on August 16, 2011 on her website, as well as on Facebook and Twitter, that she had officially signed with Russian label Gala Records, a EMI subsidiary. "All Because of You/двину мир" will be released in late August, as well as a accompanying video. The singer's official website announced that two weeks after the announcement, she would return to the studio to complete an additional recording session for "All Because of You/двину мир" and that the album will be released in October. The release of the magazine was postponed for the third time until November. Volkova also confirmed that she would fly to South America for a promotional tour, in which she will perform some songs by t.A.T.u. Also some of her solo work. In her native Russia, "All Because of You" debuted at number 247.

Volkova was among the 25 artists in the final list for Russia's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan, and was announced by the press on March 1st. RTR, the Russian television broadcaster, later confirmed her presence. With the song "Back to Her Future," she and Eurovision 2008 champion Dima Bilan as a pair. They finished in second place with 29.25 points, behind the winning entry, "Party for Everybody," by Russian ethno-pop band Buranovskiye Babushki, who earned 38.51 points.

Volkova's Facebook administrator, Simone Volkova, announced on the t.A.T.u. on July 11, 2012. Volkova's second single, titled "Didn't Want to Do It," was expected to be released in July 2012. It was supposed to be her first world single.

Volkova underwent surgery in late 2012 and continued to perform when recovering.

Volkova produced a string of shows with her old bandmate Lena Katina, which culminated in a television appearance at the Olympic Games in Russia in 2014. However, Katina accusing Volkova of blackmailing her just a few days later, effectively ending the game of t.A.T.U. as a band. Volkova denied the charges. "ов в кадом мновение" ("Love in Every Moment"), the artist's debut rather than a t.A.t.u.u. artist), as well as musicians Ligalize and Mike Tompkins, were among the songs that were released as a joint venture rather than as a t.V.u.t.u.e. Volkova unveiled her own line of shoes, C & C shoes, in 2013.

Volkova spoke out about her illness for the first time in 2016, revealing that she had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2012. Her laryngeal nerve was damaged during a complicated surgery to remove the tumor, causing her to lose her voice. She has sought further assistance to regain her singing voice.

Acting career

Volkova appeared in sketches from the children's comedy television show Yeralash in 1996 and 1998.

Volkova made her film debut in the film You and I, the tale of two teenage girls who meet and fall in love in a Moscow t.A.T.u. There is a concert in the United States. The film is based on the book t.A.T.u. Come Back, which was based on true events.

Volkova appeared in the film Zombie Fever (previously titled Fear Mongers and then 91 Zombies) in August 2011. Zombie Fever is a Russian-language horror/comedy film shot on location in Minsk, Belarus, according to the author's official website. Zombie Fever, produced by New Wave Production in the style of such films as Zombieland or Shaun of the Dead, premiered in Russia on August 15th, 2013 under the local name Zombie holidays 3D. Natasha is Volkova's heroine.

The video for the song "ов в кадом мновении") ("Love in Every Moment") was released in 2014 as part of initiative CORNETTO's CUPIDITY. Volkova, one of the cupids in the film "push it to make a teenage couple" get together, vowing to make a young couple in a long-distance romance. The singer/actress made a cameo in an episode of Slovakia's daily television series Panelák on February 18, 2014.

Political career

Volkova declared in April 2021 that she will run for Ivanovo in the Russian parliamentary elections in September 2021. Volkova lost by 919 votes in the primary election for the party's nomination, losing to Mikhail Kizeev, a relatively unknown member of the Ivanovo Oblast Duma who received over 36,000 votes.
