Early life and education
Ling was born in Temple City, California. During the Second Sino-Japanese War, her grandparents, who immigrated from China, migrated to Cambodia. Ling's parents grew up in Cambodia and then immigrated to the United States during the Cambodian genocide shortly before her birth.
Ling received the "Best Storyteller Award" by Chinese World News at the age of 6, which was a prize for storytelling. Ling's artwork was on display on the front page of Pasadena Star News, as well as in newspapers and festivals. Ling was presenting award-winning solo dances around California, and her umbrella performance had been broadcast on national television by age 9.
She competed in dance, tennis, and swimming at Temple City High School as a scholar athlete.

Career
Ling has appeared in more than 20 independent films and appeared in numerous television roles. She made her television debut on Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 2003 and appeared in Kim Tao's recurring role on NBC's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Anna Wu appeared on NBC's Chuck for three seasons. Her other regular appearances on television include stints on House, ER, Grey's Anatomy, and The O.C. The Deep End.
Ling participated in the martial arts championship Jackie Chan Disciples in 2007. She was selected as a "Top Four Finalist" representing the United States at the International Finalists tournament in China. Her appearances also earned her the "Best Acting Award." She was unable to participate in China due to Chuck's appearance.
Ling produced and shot her first live action series for the game Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3.
