My Polyamorous Relationship Isn't a Trend — It's My Life

www.popsugar.co.uk, February 23, 2024
I'm in a throuple, and when I tell people about my polyamorous relationship, they often say something like, "Wow, cool," or "Oh, how modern!" And here's why: I get it. Polyamory is everywhere right now; it seems that it is having a moment. Recently, New York Magazine's viral coverage of polyamory, as well as a Gucci fragrance ad in which Elliot Page, A$AP Rocky, and Julia Garner were an on-screen throuple. Couples in the new reality TV series "Couple to Throuple" are essentially test-drive polyamory. (That show is a master class in what not to do). A recent New Yorker article explored how polyamory became so popular. But the truth is, it has always been around. "While humans have always linked as a way of sharing resources, it was extremely widespread in tribal cultures for both men and women to be sexually nonmonogamous," Gigi Engle, a COSRT-registered, GSRD-accredited sex and relationships psychotherapist and lead intimacy specialist for Taimi's LGBTQ+ dating app Taimi. "There are different explanations as to why this happened, but one is that the males would not necessarily know who their children were and so will care for all the children as well as the females. For a long time, a collectivist way of life and raising young was the norm."
