Joshua Jackson (born June 11, 1978) is a Canadian actor.
He is best known for his role in the teen drama series Dawson's Creek (1998–2013), Peter Bishop in the science fiction series Fringe (2008–2013), Cole Lockhart in the drama series Remember Me (1999–2001). The Mighty Ducks film (1992-1996), Cruel Intentions (1999), The Skulls (2000), and Shutter (2008).
Jackson received the Genie Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in 2008 for his role in the Canadian independent film One Week (2008).
Early life
Jackson was born in Vancouver to parents John and Fiona. His mother is a casting director. Jackson's father is from Texas, and his mother is from Ballyfermot, Ireland, and immigrated to North America in the late 1960s. Jonathan and Lyman have a younger brother, Aisleagh, and two older half brothers, Jonathan and Lyman. He was raised Catholic.
Jackson lived in California until the age of 8. With his mother and younger sister, he and his mother travelled to Vancouver. He attended Ideal Mini School and then moved to Kitsilano Secondary School. Ryan Reynolds, an actor, attended high school together with him. In an interview with The New York Times, Jackson said he was kicked out of high school once because of The Jon Stewart Show: "The show] played, at least where I grew up, so I'd stay up at night to watch Jon Stewart. In Topanga, California, he owns his childhood home. He grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina, where Dawson's Creek was shot, as well as in New York, where Fringe shot its first season. In 2009, he went back to Vancouver to shoot four seasons of the show before the last episode was broadcast on January 18, 2013.
Jackson is a fan of the Vancouver Canucks hockey team. After a clash with a security guard during a North Carolina Raleigh, North Carolina, on November 9, 2002, he was arrested. He was charged with assault, affray, and public intoxication and disruption after having a 0.14 blood alcohol level. Prosecutors decided to drop the assault charge, and Jackson decided to attend an alcohol rehabilitation course and provide 24 hours of community service in order to have the remaining charge dropped.
Career
In 1991, Jackson first appeared in a small role in the film Crooked Hearts. He appeared in Charlie in Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory's musical version next year. Laura Kennedy, the play's casting director, helped with the play's casting, he joined the William Morris Agency at this point.
