Josh Addo-Carr Career

Playing career

Addo-Carr played for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks' National Youth Competition squad in 2014 and 2015, winning 28 tries in 44 matches. He signed a one-year deal with the Wests Tigers on September 23, 2015, beginning in 2016.

Addo-Carr made his NRL debut against the Melbourne Storm in Round 7, scoring a try. Coincidentally, Suliasi Vunivalu made his debut on the same day as Addo-Carr for the Storm, scoring a try on debut. Vunivalu will continue to be Addo-Carr's wing partner during his Melbourne-based club tenure. He began a three-year deal with the Melbourne Storm on June 6th, beginning in 2017. He was named on the wing of the 2016 Intrust Super Premiership NSW Team of the Year in September.

In round 1 of the season against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Belmore Sports Ground, Addo-Carr made his Melbourne Storm debut against the Canterbury Bulldogs. Addo-Carr scored his first club attempt for Melbourne in Round 3 against the Brisbane Broncos, winning the match 14-12 at AAMI Park in Round 3. In the 20-10 victory at Mudgee on May 7, he represented City Origin against Country Origin. Addo-Carr scored his first hat-trick of tries in round 25 against the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the 64–6 victory at AAMI Park. Addo-Carr's contract with Melbourne came to an end in the 2021 season on August 31. He went on to compete in the 2017 NRL Grand Final, scoring two tries to help seal the Storm's premiership.

Addo-Carr was selected to play for New South Wales in the 2018 State of Origins series. As New South Wales won their first origin shield since 2014, he was active in all three games. Carr scored an 85-meter intercept try in the Sydney Roosters' 21-6 loss, bringing his year total number to 18 games from 25 games.

Addo-Carr, one of the New South Wales players who said they did not perform the Australian National Anthem before the 2019 State of Origins series, was one of the few Australian National Anthem players to note. He appeared in all three games as New South Wales defeated 2-1 and retained the shield for the first time since 2005. Addo-Carr made 23 appearances and scored 16 tries as Melbourne's minor premiers finished. Melbourne was destined to progress to the preliminary final against the Sydney Roosters but were defeated 14-6. Addo-Carr made his international debut for Australia Kangaroos in squads for both the 2019 Rugby League World Cup 9s and Oceania Cup fixtures on October 7th.

Addo-Carr was fined $1000 by the NRL on Saturday and placed under scrutiny after he broke tight lockdown protocols with fellow player Latrell Mitchell while camping during the Coronavirus pandemic. Since he posed with and fired a weapon in a video posted on his Instagram account, he was also put in further scrutiny for the use of a firearm. He was fined an additional $50,000 by the NRL for breaching stringent self-identity rules and bringing the game into disrepute the next day.

He went on to win the 2020 NRL Grand Final at Melbourne, finishing his season with 16 tries in 21 appearances. In game 1, he was later selected on the wing to represent NSW in the 2020 State of Origin series, scoring two tries in their 14-18 loss in game one, and two attempts in the 34-10 victory. Following the loss to Queensland in Game 3, NSW will go 2-1. He signed a four-year contract with Canterbury-Bankstown from 2022 to 2020.

Addo-Carr scored six tries in Melbourne's 50-0 victory over the South Sydney Rabbitohs in round 9 of the 2021 NRL season. Addo-Carr scored six tries in a single game, becoming Australia's first player to do so for the first time in 71 years, Jack Troy, 1950 when playing for Newtown.

He was selected for game one of the 2021 State of Origin series on May 30th. New South Wales defeated Queensland 26-0 in game two of the series. He scored two tries. Addo-Carr played in 22 games for Melbourne in the 2021 NRL season, scoring 23 times as the club gained 19 games in a row and claimed the Minor Premiership. He was in the preliminary final, where Melbourne lost by 10-6 against eventual premiers Penrith.

Addo-Carr made his Canterbury debut for Canterbury in their 6-4 victory over North Queensland at the Queensland Country Bank Stadium in round 1 of the 2022 NRL season. In round 6, Addo-Carr scored his first attempt for Canterbury, who lost 36-16 against South Sydney. In round 8, Addo-Carr captained the Canterbury side and scored two tries, leading to their thrilling 16-12 victory over the Sydney Roosters. Addo-Carr was not selected by New South Wales coach Brad Fittler for game one of the 2022 State of Origin series's Addo-Carr on May 29. In round 13, Addo-Carr scored two tries for Canterbury in a 30-18 loss to a depleted Penrith side. In round 14, Addo-Carr scored a hat-trick in Canterbury's 34-4 win over Parramatta, one of archrivals Parramatta. Despite his solid form at club level, Addo-Carr was not selected for game two of the State of Origin collection on June 19, with coach Brad Fittler opting to keep the out of form Daniel Tupou. Addo-Carr scored a hat-trick in Canterbury's 36-26 victory over the hapless Gold Coast in round 19.

Addo-Carr was selected in the 24-man squad for the Australian Kangaroos by Mal Meninga to travel to England for the 2021 Rugby World Cup. As a result of Brad Fittler's controversial decision not to select him for the State of Origin 2022 series, journalist Paul Crawley said, "anyone with half a clue" wants to go to the Bulldogs knowing it would be the end of your rep career if you go there." He was accompanied by Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs five-eigth Matt Burton, who both represent the Belmore-based team.

When the Kangaroos defeated 42-8, Addo-Carr played on the wing against Fiji Bati at Emerald Headingley Stadium in Leeds, scoring a double. Addo-Carr's first run was a 98 meter run over Sunia Turuva, a fullback. Addo-Carr in a roaming role scored a grubber kick from Harry Grant to score next to the posts for the second. Fittler's media sparked concerns about his decision not to select Addo-Carr for the Blues in 2022, a game they will eventually lose.

The "Foxx" was branded a star, unstoppable, and a weird guy after scoring four tries against Scotland, including a "world class" attempt in the final minute.
