Josef Stiegler Life

Josef "Pepi" Stiegler, a former alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist, was born in Lienz, Austria, on April 20th, 1937.

He competed for the Austrian national ski team from the late 1950s to early 1960s and was one of the world's best racers.

His two children are in the United States. Resi (b.) - daughter of the ski team.

He (b. ) is a member of the World Cup Team and his son Seppi (b. 1985) is on the World Cup team.

1988 (or 1988) is on the Nor-Am circuit. Stiegler, a slalom runner, earned a silver medal in the slalom and finished fifth in the slalom at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley.

He earned the bronze medal in the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, as well as the gold medal in slalom, beating out American medalists Billy Kidd and Jimmie Heuga.

"He was the Austrian sportsman of the Year 1964," he said. Pepi Stiegler wrote articles for ski magazines and appeared at many ski shows in the United States later in life.

He began teaching in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in 1965, and then spent eight years as the ski ambassador.

After 37 years with the resort, he resigned in 2002. Stiegler, who was similar to Heuga, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1993.

Egon Zimmermann, a gold medalist in the 1964 Olympic downhill, also has MS.
