College career
He played quarterback at Butte College after graduating high school. When the team won the 2008 junior college national championship with a 12–0 record, he was backup quarterback at Butte. He set a school record for total offense in 2012, throwing for 2,219 yards and 19 touchdowns. He has also been recognized for his academic achievements.
After two years at BCC, he transferred to Vanderbilt University, considering both the University of Kansas and Western Kentucky University.
He began the season as the second-team quarterback and ended the season with seven starts. He completed 108 passes in 216 attempts for 1,524 yards with nine passing touchdowns and 10 interceptions, resulting in a QBR of 113.80. He was also the team's second-leading rusher, with 420 yards on 117 attempts.

Rodgers was drafted by the Miami Dolphins on April 3, 2014 to face third-string quarterback Pat Devlin on third row. He was suspended on May 12, 2014.
